ROSGT Chapter 9: You Want to Join Us and Become Part of SB?
A man’s voice came through, “Hello, this is Wang Zhaoming, the communication receptionist of the SB Software Development Department. How can I help you?”
“Hello, I’m Professor X from the Software Alliance. You left me a message on the forum a while ago, asking me to contact you through this number,” Ye Chui briefly introduced himself.
There was a slight pause on the other end, and then Wang Zhaoming continued, “So, you’re the creator of Link-Up? We’ve been waiting for you to contact us. Why did it take you so long?”
The tone carried a hint of reproach. After all, SB Optical Brain Company was very prestigious. When they sent a message to a software developer on the Software Alliance, most developers would contact them immediately. But Ye Chui had taken two or three days to respond, which made Wang Zhaoming understandably displeased.
Ye Chui didn’t mind Wang Zhaoming’s displeased tone and smiled, “Sorry, I was busy with other matters and only saw the message today.”
“Hmph.” Wang Zhaoming snorted, clearly not believing Ye Chui’s excuse. He paused for a moment and then continued, “Since you called us, I assume you’ve agreed to sell the rights to Link-Up? We’re offering ten thousand. This will grant us all rights to the software. According to regulations, the Software Alliance can continue downloads for another month, after which you must close the forum downloads. How about it?”
“Ten thousand?”
The price seemed a bit low. Was this a case of a big company taking advantage of a small developer?
In just three days, Link-Up had already earned Ye Chui ten thousand yuan.
Selling the software rights for ten thousand yuan, even with the additional month of downloads, which might bring the download count to three or four million, seemed undervalued. Given Link-Up's current popularity, its download count would surely continue to grow.
Selling the rights for only ten thousand yuan was clearly not worth it.
Sensing Ye Chui's hesitation, Wang Zhaoming chuckled coldly, “Professor X, you’re clearly a newbie. Let me put it this way: if you sell it to us at this price, we can offer you priority consideration for any future software you develop. This is a very valuable privilege, and you should understand its significance.”
Priority consideration meant that SB Optical Brain Company would have the first option to purchase any software Ye Chui developed in the future. This privilege would be highly attractive to other software developers.
However, it wasn’t what Ye Chui wanted.
Negotiating with large companies wasn’t simple. Ye Chui responded firmly, “Ten thousand is acceptable, but I have one condition.”
“A condition?” Wang Zhaoming’s voice was disdainful. “What’s your condition?”
“I want to join SB Company as a software designer,” Ye Chui stated.
“You want to join us and become part of SB?”
Wang Zhaoming laughed loudly, “How ridiculous. Do you think that just because you developed Link-Up by chance, you’re qualified to join SB? You’re dreaming. Do you think you can create another successful software like Link-Up?”
Ye Chui almost burst out laughing at Wang Zhaoming’s incredulous “You want to join us and become part of SB?” but he held back and continued, “I’m sorry, but that’s my condition. I hope you’ll consider it.”
Wang Zhaoming was silent for a moment, then snorted and said, “Fine, I’ll consult with the manager and get back to you.”
With that, Wang Zhaoming ended the call.
Ye Chui frowned. He had hoped to use Link-Up as leverage to join a major optical brain company and pursue his ambitions. After all, the large-scale games in his mind could only be fully developed with the support of these companies.
However, it seemed he had underestimated the complexity of the situation.
Ye Chui sighed, picked up his list, and began contacting the next company on it.
...
Tianhai Commercial Building, Yanjing City.
This was the headquarters of SB Optical Brain Company, occupying the third to tenth floors of the building. The software development department was on the seventh floor.
After ending the call, Wang Zhaoming still had a look of disdain on his face. “He just happened to develop Link-Up and thinks he has some significant leverage. He actually wants to join SB Optical Brain Company. Ridiculous.”
Despite his disdain, Wang Zhaoming knew he should consult with the department manager about this matter. After all, Link-Up’s massive success indicated the software’s excellence, and the manager had made it clear that acquiring the rights was a priority.
Wang Zhaoming was a receptionist in the software development department of SB Company.
This role involved liaising with independent software developers and handling related matters.
Straightening his collar, Wang Zhaoming knocked on the glass door of the manager’s office.
“Come in,” a steady voice called out.
Wang Zhaoming, feeling a bit nervous, opened the door and walked in.
The large office was simply decorated, reflecting the cold, decisive character of its occupant.
A man in his thirties, dressed impeccably in a suit, with neatly combed hair, sat behind a large desk, reading a document.
Wang Zhaoming stood silently in front of the desk, waiting for the manager to finish his work.
During this time, Wang Zhaoming thought about the manager’s legendary career.
The manager’s name was Huang Xiaotian. He was said to have never attended school and was entirely self-taught.
He had gained fame by publishing original software on the Software Alliance and was then recruited by SB Company.
In three years, he had risen from an ordinary software developer to the manager of the department.
The current top-ranked software on the Software Alliance was Huang Xiaotian’s creation!
Of course, this record was likely to be surpassed by Link-Up.
This was why Huang Xiaotian had taken notice of Ye Chui.
About five minutes later, Huang Xiaotian finished reading his document and looked up at Wang Zhaoming, “What is it?”
“It’s about Professor X…” Wang Zhaoming quickly explained Ye Chui’s condition.
He didn’t embellish the story, sticking to the facts—exaggeration would be unwise in front of Huang Xiaotian’s strong presence.
After listening, Huang Xiaotian rubbed his temples and thought for a moment, then said, “Raise the offer to twenty thousand. If he doesn’t agree… forget it. SB will no longer accept any of his works in the future!”
