ROSGT Chapter 10: Under Professor X’s Guidance

At this moment, Ye Chui was contacting the sixth optical brain company on his list.

“The most we can offer is fifteen thousand,” said the voice on the other end. “As for your condition, I’m sorry, but we currently have no open positions.”

“I see, that’s unfortunate,” Ye Chui said wearily. “I’ll have to think about the copyright sale for Link-Up.”

“Alright, no problem,” the voice on the other end replied, then added, “But let me give you some advice: creating Link-Up doesn’t mean much. I hope you seize the opportunity now.”

With that, the call ended.

Ye Chui rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache coming on. He realized that while Link-Up was hugely successful, the technical content of the game was very low. It was essentially a simple program, crudely made, and popular purely because of its brilliant concept. While this demonstrated Ye Chui’s talent to some extent, it also indicated that his skills weren’t highly valued.

As a result, many gaming companies were interested in buying the game’s rights but weren’t keen on hiring Ye Chui.

He contacted the first six companies on his list, and the results were almost identical.

“Do I really have to create Tetris, Bejeweled, and Minesweeper before they’ll take me seriously?” Ye Chui wondered.

Just then, his optical brain displayed an incoming communication request, and Ye Chui perked up as he answered.

“Professor X,” Wang Zhaoming’s voice came through. “I’ve discussed it with our manager.”

“Oh? What did he say?” Ye Chui asked, holding onto a last bit of hope.

“We can slightly increase the price for the rights to Link-Up, but as for you joining our company... I’m sorry, that’s not possible,” Wang Zhaoming said smugly.

“I see,” Ye Chui said, a bit disappointed. “Since you won’t agree... then forget it.”

Ye Chui’s willingness to walk away surprised Wang Zhaoming, making him feel somewhat unsatisfied. “We’re very interested in Link-Up. Are you sure you won’t reconsider selling it to us? We can negotiate the price.”

“My only condition is to join your company. If that’s not possible, there’s nothing more to discuss,” Ye Chui replied firmly.

“Hmph, Professor X, you’re being very unreasonable,” Wang Zhaoming said coldly, irritated by Ye Chui’s attitude. “If this ends on bad terms, SB will never accept any of your works in the future.”

“Then so be it,” Ye Chui responded indifferently.

To be honest, having his work labeled under SB felt a bit insulting to Ye Chui.

Wang Zhaoming ended the call angrily.

Ye Chui felt somewhat dispirited as he looked at his list and finally focused on the last name: Jian Fan Studio.

“A studio...”

Ye Chui’s eyes began to shine with a glimmer of realization.

He understood something.

“Even if I join a major optical brain company now, what good would it do? My programming skills are lacking. Even with a bunch of great ideas, why would they follow my instructions to make those games? To develop large-scale games, I have to start from the basics... I’ll join this studio and develop simple games step by step!”

...

In the suburban Jian Fan Studio.

“Fang Xi, I’m warning you one last time. If you don’t go take a shower, I’ll fight you!” Fang Nan shouted with a hint of desperation in her voice.

She had a scarf tied around her face, blocking her nose, as she approached the chubby Fang Xi with a look of determination.

Fang Xi was emanating a foul odor—thanks to three days without a shower and constant sweating.

However, despite his usual fear of his sister’s wrath, Fang Xi ignored her this time. All his attention was focused on the optical brain in front of him, his fingers flying across the screen as he coded furiously.

“I’m almost done. Just give me a little more time,” he said, his eyes not leaving the screen for a moment.

“What are you doing?” asked Jian Fan, wearing black-rimmed glasses. He rarely saw Fang Xi so engrossed in something. Fang Xi had hardly left his seat for three days. Jian Fan was certain Fang Xi wasn’t working on the tasks assigned to him, which made him unhappy. The smell coming from Fang Xi made it even worse for Jian Fan, who had a bit of a cleanliness obsession.

“I’m making a game,” Fang Xi replied.

“A game!?”

Both Fang Nan and Jian Fan were taken aback. Just three days ago, the word “game” had a completely different meaning. Now, it had a whole new significance.

To them, a game meant something like Link-Up. Could Fang Xi have created something similar?

“It’s done!” Fang Xi exclaimed. “Under Professor X’s guidance, I’ve finally completed my first game!”

“Professor X? How did he guide you?” Fang Nan quickly asked, her interest piqued. She had been obsessed with Link-Up recently and was very interested in its creator.

“That’s a story for later. First, you two try the game I’ve created,” Fang Xi said, sending the modified Little Cat’s Adventure to Fang Nan and Jian Fan’s optical brains.

“Little Cat’s Adventure? Isn’t that the rubbish software you made earlier?” Jian Fan asked, frowning at the name.

“This is version 2.0, and it’s no longer just software; it’s a game. Under Professor X’s guidance, it’s undergone a complete transformation,” Fang Xi said proudly, eagerly opening the Software Alliance forum, ready to publish the game.

“Alright, got it,” Fang Nan said, curiously opening the game. “Now go take a shower, or I’ll drag you to the bathtub myself.”

“Hehe, I’m going now.”

Fang Xi, having completed the game, felt a sense of relief and realized how uncomfortable he was. He quickly published the game online and rushed to the bathroom.

In his haste, Fang Xi didn’t notice the message Ye Chui had sent him.

In the main room, Fang Nan and Jian Fan began to play Little Cat’s Adventure 2.0 with some skepticism.

When Fang Xi first created it, they had both thought it was useless software, and Jian Fan had been quite angry about it.

But now, their faces quickly showed surprise.

“Complete tasks within a certain time to earn enough points to pass…” Fang Nan played for a while and then exclaimed, “Wow, this is really interesting!”
