Chapter 86: One Yuan

"It's you!"

As Ye Chui finished speaking, both Cao Kang and Lin Xin exclaimed in unison, their faces showing extreme shock.

After learning that the author of "999 Roses" was a disabled person, Lin Xin had briefly considered the possibility of it being Ye Chui, but then dismissed it, thinking that such a beautiful song couldn't possibly have been written by him.

However, reality was now shattering their perceptions!

That beautiful song was indeed written by Ye Chui!

How could this be possible!?

Cao Kang and Lin Xin were both stunned, while Ye Chui's expression turned icy cold.

Fang Nan, standing beside Ye Chui, was surprised as well. She had never seen Ye Chui this angry before. She exchanged a glance with her brother, Fang Xi, both of them showing unusual expressions.

"Hopefully, he doesn't recognize me. After all, it's been two years since we last met..." Fang Nan thought, then curiously guessed, "It seems like Hammer has a big grudge against Cao Kang. What happened between them?"

Old Fang and Chu Qingci were puzzled, not expecting Ye Chui and Cao Kang to know each other.

After a moment of awkward silence in the private room, Chu Qingci tried to ease the tension. "I didn't expect you to know each other, Ye Chui. That makes things easier. Since you're friends..."

"We're not friends," Ye Chui interrupted coldly, his eyes fixed on Cao Kang. "We'll never be friends. We're mortal enemies, a fight to the death."

Chu Qingci's face changed. She knew Cao Kang's status and didn't want to offend him, so she continued to try and mediate. "Ye Chui, you're being too harsh. There's no grudge that can't be resolved..."

"It can't be resolved," Ye Chui said coldly. "Unless he becomes a cripple and has to live in a wheelchair for the rest of his life!"

Everyone in the room glanced at Ye Chui's paralyzed legs, beginning to understand what was going on.

Fang Nan and Fang Xi had always known that Ye Chui's legs were paralyzed from a car accident, but they didn't know the details. Now, they realized that the person responsible for the accident was Cao Kang!

The hatred for crippling someone indeed warranted a fight to the death.

Chu Qingci never imagined there was such deep enmity between Ye Chui and Cao Kang. She cast a blaming glance at Old Fang — after all, it was Old Fang who brought Cao Kang here. Now, things were tricky, as she didn't want to offend either Ye Chui or Cao Kang.

Chu Qingci took a step back, deciding to stay out of whatever was going to happen next.

Old Fang was filled with guilt. As a composer, he had a lot of goodwill towards Ye Chui, but he had unknowingly brought Ye Chui's enemy to meet him.

"Ha ha..."

After a moment of silence, Cao Kang laughed, walking up to Ye Chui and looking down at him. "I didn't expect the person who wrote that song to be you! Quite surprising, indeed. But... do you really think you can be my enemy? A fight to the death? Give me a break. Do you even know who you are? Do you really think you can break my legs and make me end up in a wheelchair like you? Ha ha ha, look at yourself!"

His words were filled with disdain and ridicule, but Ye Chui remained calm — he knew exactly what kind of revenge he wanted. He had envisioned this scene countless times and knew exactly what to do.

"Don't underestimate the youth. You think being the eldest son of the Cao family makes you invincible? Don't forget, among the prominent families in Beijing, the Cao family ranks at the bottom. One day, I will surpass you, and you will regret everything you've done..." Ye Chui pointed at Cao Kang's legs. "When that day comes, you'll be sitting in a wheelchair, and I'll be standing before you."

Ye Chui's voice was calm, without any gnashing of teeth or intense rage, yet it carried a chilling coldness that made people shiver.

Cao Kang felt a momentary shiver of fear...

This fear enraged him.

He decided to take control, stepping forward to teach Ye Chui a lesson.

But just then, two people blocked his way.

Fang Xi and Fang Nan.

"You two..."

Cao Kang was shocked once again, his reaction no less than when he saw Ye Chui.

"Want to fight? I'm game," Fang Nan said calmly. Seeing Cao Kang's expression, she knew he recognized them. So, there was no need to hide. She continued in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Do you want me to send you to the hospital again?"

...

Cao Kang was instantly reminded of some very unpleasant memories, his face turning pale as he looked at Fang Nan and Fang Xi.

He suddenly recalled Ye Chui's earlier words: Among the prominent families in Beijing, the Cao family ranks at the bottom.

Ye Chui had said it casually, but now it took on a different meaning in Cao Kang's mind.

Ye Chui was also surprised. Fang Nan and Fang Xi could actually intimidate Cao Kang?

"A'Kang, what's wrong?" Lin Xin asked, concerned, walking up to Cao Kang.

Cao Kang shook his head, his expression uncertain.

Lin Xin's expression was complicated. She glanced at Fang Nan — women always compare themselves, especially in terms of appearance. Fang Nan's protective stance towards Ye Chui clearly indicated a close relationship. After leaving Ye Chui, he found someone even more beautiful, perhaps more beautiful than herself...

This made her burn with jealousy.

Moreover, "999 Roses" was written by Ye Chui!

Singing that song would guarantee her instant fame...

Suddenly, Lin Xin thought of something, convinced of her idea: The lyrics and music of "999 Roses" are beautiful and filled with the sorrow of someone who has lost love.

Could it be... Ye Chui wrote this song after I left him, out of sorrow for losing me?

If so, he would surely sell me the song if I asked.

With this thought, Lin Xin became excited. She put on her usual gentle and innocent expression, looking at Ye Chui with a hint of purity. "Ye Chui, did you really write '999 Roses'? It's such a beautiful song. Could you give it to me?"

Could you give me the song?

Wow, what a shameless request in such a pure tone...

"Zhou Ming," Ye Chui called out to the stunned Zhou Ming.

"Huh? X-...X-Professor, what's wrong?" Zhou Ming snapped out of his daze.

"Do you have a yuan on you?" Ye Chui asked.

"A yuan?" Zhou Ming was puzzled but quickly searched his pockets, pulling out a one-yuan coin and handing it to Ye Chui. "X-Professor, what do you need a yuan for?"

Everyone was curious about what Ye Chui was up to.

Ye Chui took the coin, weighed it in his hand, then put it in his pocket. He smiled at Zhou Ming. "I'm selling '999 Roses' to you for one yuan. I've accepted your money, so the song is yours now."
