Chapter 77: The King of Comics
Bai Miyun sent the completed novel to Ye Chui through the optical computer. Ye Chui quickly opened it and began reading.
Soon, Ye Chui was engrossed in the novel. Although he had provided the plot outline, Bai Miyun’s writing made it captivating and engaging. The 120,000-word novel was divided into nine chapters. Following the arcade format, the protagonists, Ryu and Ken, had to defeat an opponent in each chapter, gradually moving towards victory in the Street Fighter tournament. The plot was thrilling, and the descriptions stirred a sense of excitement and passion, making it impossible to stop reading.
When Ye Chui finally looked up, he realized he had spent three hours reading the entire novel.
"Bai Miyun’s writing is excellent. It’s very engaging," Ye Chui remarked, rubbing his eyes. An idea suddenly struck him: "With Bai Miyun’s fast writing speed, I wonder if she could write out those classic novels from the other world if I provided the outlines?"
Thinking of this, Ye Chui’s first thoughts were of Jin Yong and Gu Long’s works. This world had martial arts novels, but without Jin Yong or Gu Long, and the new wave of martial arts had not emerged. The so-called martial arts novels here felt like those from the Republican era in the other world, which Ye Chui found unappealing and hard to read.
"I wonder if Bai Miyun would be interested in my proposal?" Ye Chui mused.
It was already 11 PM, and Ye Chui wasn’t sure if Bai Miyun was asleep. He considered waiting until the next day but found himself too excited to wait. He decided to send a tentative message: "Miyun, are you still awake?"
Moments later, Bai Miyun replied: "I’m still up. How’s the Street Fighter novel?"
"It’s great. I really like it," Ye Chui replied quickly. "Your writing perfectly captured the story I outlined. I have other exciting stories. Could you also adapt them into novels?"
"I’d need to see your outlines first," Bai Miyun responded promptly.
"Okay," Ye Chui said. "Give me a moment. I’ll start writing the outline!"
Ye Chui opened his portable light screen and created a new document. After a moment’s thought, he decided, "I’ll start with Jin Yong’s Condor Trilogy. First, The Legend of the Condor Heroes..."
Jin Yong’s works were so iconic that they were frequently adapted into TV series, with countless versions existing. Anyone who wasn’t a complete bookworm could narrate the stories. Ye Chui started drafting the outline, and although there were slight deviations from the original, it mostly captured the essence of the story.
After two hours, Ye Chui had written over 5,000 words. He eagerly sent the outline to Bai Miyun: "This story is called The Legend of the Condor Heroes. What do you think?"
"Is this a martial arts novel?" Bai Miyun asked, intrigued.
"Yes."
"But the plot is quite different from the martial arts novels that are popular now," Bai Miyun replied.
Ye Chui was impressed by her keen eye. She truly deserved her Golden Bull - Pen Peak award. Smiling, he responded: "You can call it a new martial arts novel. I think it’s much better than those old ones."
"I’m very interested in this story!" Bai Miyun replied eagerly, indicating she had already read the entire outline. "Can I write this into a novel?"
"Of course," Ye Chui replied happily. "Should we discuss the payment for your work?"
"We can talk about that later," Bai Miyun replied, showing little interest in the financial aspect.
Ye Chui understood that Bai Miyun, being a literary enthusiast, was captivated by his story and couldn’t wait to bring it to life with her writing. However, Ye Chui wasn’t the type to exploit a literary talent. Once the novels started earning profits, he wouldn’t forget her contribution.
Bai Miyun then asked Ye Chui several questions, such as the effects of certain martial arts moves like the Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms. Ye Chui answered all her queries.
At 2 AM, they finally ended their conversation, and Ye Chui, feeling exhausted, fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Ye Chui woke up with sleepy eyes, washed up, and checked the game store on his optical computer to see the sales of Street Fighter. Since yesterday afternoon, Street Fighter had sold 540,000 copies, while Kung Fu Kid had sold only about 3,600 copies, a complete flop.
"Although the sales speed of Street Fighter has slowed down, breaking a million sales is still no problem."
Ye Chui felt content. A software title reaching a million sales could be considered platinum software, a status typically reserved for major optical computer companies. Achieving this with his first game was nothing short of a miracle—no wonder the media was calling Ye Chui a miracle creator.
After breakfast, Ye Chui and Fang Nan set out. Fang Nan had clearly dressed up for the occasion. She wore a white long dress, with a touch of light makeup on her pretty face, giving off a sweet first love vibe... Her soft-spoken demeanor over breakfast even made Fang Xi shiver.
Ye Chui found this amusing, knowing that Fang Nan wanted to make a good impression on his mother. It warmed his heart.
The office for the magazine that his mother, Zhou Yayun, had chosen was located downtown, about half an hour’s drive from Ye Chui’s place. On the way, Ye Chui thought of the novel Bai Miyun had sent him last night and opened a magazine editing software to incorporate the novel into the magazine sample.
Ye Chui had spent over 300 yuan on this magazine editing software, which was very practical for editing magazines. Once the sample was completed, it could be sent to the printing house to be printed as a finished product.
Over the past few days, Ye Chui had already created the first issue sample of the magazine using this software.
During the drive, he placed the first chapter of the Street Fighter novel in the center of the magazine. He also used Fang Nan’s goddess photos in the prominent early pages to advertise the game store. The cover featured a collage of main characters from the comics, such as Son Goku, Hanamichi Sakuragi, Yusuke Urameshi, Nie Feng, Bu Jingyun, and Bruce Wayne.
In this world, magazine covers were usually very standard. Ye Chui borrowed the style from the other world, making the cover a mixed collage and highlighting the main content, which was quite innovative.
Additionally, the words "King of Comics" were prominently displayed on the front page. This title was the result of a discussion between Ye Chui and his mother, Zhou Yayun. Originally, the magazine was called "King Magazine," and since it was now a comic magazine, renaming it "King of Comics" was quite fitting. The renaming process had been completed.
The magazine consisted of over a hundred pages. Ye Chui was eager to see how it would look when printed.
"Once Dragon Ball and other comics gain some fame, launching fighting games should also sell well," Ye Chui thought excitedly. "Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Batman had great sales for arcade and console games in the other world. I wonder what kind of sensation they will create in this world?"
