Chapter 64: Is This an Invitation to Slap Us in the Face?

“You two idiots! Our game releases tomorrow, and you’re all playing Professor Cha’s new game? Could you be any more ridiculous? If there’s any mistake with the release of Kung Fu Kid, I won’t forgive either of you!” Huang Xiaotian usually maintained a calm demeanor, but when he got angry, he was terrifying.

The entire office fell silent, with only the background music of Stack-Em-Up breaking the silence.

Wang Zhaoming, Jian Fan, and the other eleven game development team members looked at Huang Xiaotian in fear.

“Manager Huang, we... we just wanted to know what Professor Cha’s mysterious video was about. Jian Fan said he felt there was something odd about it. Professor Cha always has a lot of tricks up his sleeve, so we wanted to reach the tenth level and find out the information...” Wang Zhaoming quickly explained.

Jian Fan, standing next to him, felt annoyed that Wang Zhaoming was shifting the blame onto him.

Huang Xiaotian could hear the excuse in Wang Zhaoming’s words, making him even angrier. “You’re the manager, and you just went along with his suggestion? What kind of manager are you?”

“Manager Huang, I...” Wang Zhaoming’s face turned pale.

“I don’t want to hear your excuses. Our game releases tomorrow, and if you mess this up, you can forget about staying as manager!” Huang Xiaotian said coldly.

Regaining his composure, Huang Xiaotian adjusted his tie and turned to leave.

Just then, one of the team members shouted, “Someone cracked it! They cracked the hidden information in Stack-Em-Up!”

This team member had been monitoring the Software Alliance forum and saw a post from someone who had reached the tenth level and revealed the secret of the mysterious video. He couldn’t help but shout out.

Wang Zhaoming and Jian Fan were startled, and Huang Xiaotian paused.

Huang Xiaotian was also very curious about the mysterious video. Hesitating for a moment, he strode over to the team member and looked at the screen.

The screen showed a forum post from a player who had reached the tenth level and revealed all the information.

As they read, Huang Xiaotian, Wang Zhaoming, and Jian Fan were all shocked.

“Hello everyone, I’m Professor Cha. Thank you for enjoying Stack-Em-Up. I have an exciting announcement. My studio, Wolverine, has completed a new game called Street Fighter, and it will be released soon!

I guarantee this game will be even more fun and engaging than any of my previous games!

The video you saw earlier is footage from Street Fighter. I’m sure you’ve felt the thrill—it’s a high-energy, exhilarating fighting game!

Trust me, a game from Professor Cha is always top quality!

Stay tuned; the game will be released at noon on July 4th in our exclusive software store, Game Mall. You can find it by searching through network services.”

After reading this, the office fell into silence. Not only had Ye Chui released a game today, but he was also releasing a new one tomorrow?

And it was a fighting game, set to release on July 4th—tomorrow.

He was challenging them head-on!

A small studio of a few people going up against the mighty SB, releasing a game at the same time?

Previously, they would have laughed at this, but now they couldn’t.

They could imagine the huge number of people who would be watching for Professor Cha’s new game tomorrow at noon because of the hype surrounding Stack-Em-Up.

“That video was really from a game!”

Jian Fan replayed the mysterious video.

Many had speculated that the video was from a new game, but the action was so thrilling, more so than current action movies, with cool moves like the “Hadouken.” What kind of game could have such graphics?

SB’s Kung Fu Kid video paled in comparison to this.

Some thought the combat scenes couldn’t be from a game, but now Ye Chui had confirmed it.

The slightly blurry but incredibly exciting video was from a game that would be released tomorrow!

Huang Xiaotian even considered delaying the release of Kung Fu Kid to avoid a direct clash with Ye Chui.

Losing would be a massive embarrassment for SB.

However, Jian Fan suddenly shouted, “This is a trap! This must be a trap. Ye Chui is bluffing! His studio only has four or five people. It’s only been a week since I left. How could they develop a new game in a week? They don’t have the capacity!”

Jian Fan’s words made Huang Xiaotian and Wang Zhaoming pause. Indeed, SB’s team of over ten people had worked overtime for a week to complete Kung Fu Kid after getting the idea from Jian Fan.

Ye Chui’s team had only a few people and limited resources. Developing a fighting game in a week?

Impossible!

Even if they did, the game’s quality would be questionable at best.

Huang Xiaotian looked at the Street Fighter video again. Despite its excitement, the graphics were poor, pixelated, like it had been censored. Compared to their HD graphics, it was laughable.

This filled Huang Xiaotian with renewed confidence.

He snorted. “We almost fell for Professor Cha’s trick. Are we, SB, afraid of him? Tomorrow, we’ll release Kung Fu Kid as planned and face him head-on. Let’s see what he can do!”

Huang Xiaotian’s words boosted the morale of the team.

However, Jian Fan thought, “Wait, Ye Chui mentioned that after developing the arcade engine, it would take less than a week to create a new game. So, developing a new game in a week isn’t impossible for him…”

Jian Fan was about to mention this.

But seeing Huang Xiaotian’s confident expression, Jian Fan decided to keep quiet.

“Wang Zhaoming!” Huang Xiaotian turned to Wang Zhaoming. “We’re holding our game release event at Golden Sun Entertainment in Tiandi Mall tomorrow. Since Professor Cha wants to challenge us, let’s not back down. Send him an invitation. At noon tomorrow, we’ll release our games together and see whose game gets more attention!”

“A release event invitation at Golden Sun Entertainment in Tiandi Mall?”

Ye Chui read the message on his portable Guangnao out loud.

With the prevalence of portable Guangnaos, paper invitations were rare. An information code sent to a Guangnao could verify the identity for events.

It was past 10 PM in Wolverine Studio. Fang Nan, at Ye Chui’s request, was posing in a white dress with flowing hair for promotional photos for the game mall. Ye Chui was taking pictures with a camera.

Hearing Ye Chui, Fang Xi asked curiously, “Tiandi Mall? That’s a famous shopping paradise in Yanjing, and Golden Sun Entertainment is a great place for leisure. Hammer, someone sent us an invitation?”

“It just came in, from Wang Zhaoming,” Ye Chui smiled. “A game release with a grand event… SB must be trying to dominate the industry. They even sent us an invite. Are they asking us to slap them in the face?”

“They must be very confident,” Fang Nan laughed. “So, Hammer, are we going?”

“Of course, why not?” Ye Chui laughed. “We said we’d crush them with Street Fighter. Such a public event is perfect for that. I love these high-profile face-slapping moments!”
