Chapter 65: Girl, You’re a Real Tough Guy!

Tiandi Mall is one of the top malls in Xizhou City, known as a shopping paradise. The mall also features various entertainment spots, like the Golden Sun Entertainment Center on the top floor, which offers fitness, swimming, movies, and other activities. SB's choice of this venue for the Kung Fu Kid launch event was quite fitting.

In another world, it was in such places that arcade games thrived in the post-arcade era.

Early the next morning, hearing about the invitation to the mall, Fang Xi and Roberta excitedly wanted to join.

Ye Chui naturally agreed.

Fang Xi had been exhausted for weeks, developing games by day and drawing comics by night. According to him, he had even lost two pounds—though Ye Chui couldn't see any difference. Fang Xi had indeed been working hard lately, so Ye Chui generously offered to cover Fang Xi and Fang Nan's expenses at the entertainment center today.

Fang Xi and Fang Nan cheered in delight.

Before leaving, Ye Chui thought of something and opened the chat software developed by Bai Miyun. He asked, “We’re going to the launch event for Kung Fu Kid today, planning to give them a face-off. Want to come?”

“I'm not interested, not going,” Bai Miyun quickly replied.

“Alright,” Ye Chui didn't push, knowing her temperament. “Take care while you’re here alone.”

Their studio was located in Mohe Village, a suburban area where it was hard to catch a cab. Taking a bus to Tiandi Mall would take a long time, but Fang Nan had already used a ride-hailing app to book a cab. Shortly after they left the studio, the cab arrived.

As a disabled person, getting into the cab was difficult for Ye Chui. Roberta volunteered, “Professor Cha, let me help.”

“I’ll do it,” Fang Nan interrupted. Despite her delicate appearance, this beautiful woman easily lifted Ye Chui, carrying him princess-style into the car without breaking a sweat.

Ye Chui had complex feelings about being carried this way…

The driver’s cigarette almost fell out of his mouth, and he looked at Fang Nan with a peculiar expression. “Girl, you’re a real tough guy!” he exclaimed.

Roberta was equally stunned, “Oh my god…”

“You’ll get used to it,” Fang Xi patted Roberta’s shoulder seriously.

Once everyone was in the car, they sped toward Tiandi Mall.

Ye Chui opened his Guangnao to check the Software Alliance forum. Since yesterday, Stack-Em-Up had reached over forty million downloads!

At this rate, it would soon surpass fifty million and quickly catch up with Xiaoxiaokan and Lianliankan, which were released a month ago.

“Professor Cha has created an unbreakable legend on the Software Alliance!” someone commented.

No one doubted the truth of that statement.

Many eagerly awaited Ye Chui’s new game.

The game section of the forum was filled with discussions about Street Fighter.

“So the mysterious video is Professor Cha’s new game? A fighting game? Those intense scenes are game footage! I can’t wait to play it!”

“But it seems Street Fighter won’t be released on the Software Alliance?”

“Wherever Professor Cha’s new game is released, I’m supporting it!”

Similar comments flooded the forum.

The Easter egg in Stack-Em-Up had done an excellent job advertising Street Fighter. Anyone interested in the internet probably knew by now that Street Fighter would be released at noon today.

Many people couldn’t wait to spend money on the game.

Reading these comments, Ye Chui felt elated.

But it also made him more excited—what would the world be like when he introduced other masterpieces?

Poor kids, Street Fighter is just the beginning. Brace yourselves for more and better games, wahahaha!

Ye Chui continued browsing various posts and comments.

He saw one post:

“Professor Cha’s new game is a fighting game? Isn’t SB also releasing a fighting game today called Kung Fu Kid? Is there something going on? SB’s game was announced first, so maybe...”

This post immediately sparked a flood of comments.

“What’s Kung Fu Kid? It’s trash compared to Professor Cha’s Street Fighter! Don’t insult Professor Cha by mentioning trash games!”

“Is the poster suggesting that Professor Cha copied SB? Pfft, Professor Cha doesn’t need to copy anyone! He invented the game genre. If anything, they copied him.”

“Exactly! SB must have copied Professor Cha!”

“SB is shameless!”

“Boycott Kung Fu Kid, support Street Fighter!”

“I’m never using an SB system again!”

“Anyone using an SB system is an idiot!”

Ye Chui couldn’t help but smile. Although the fact that Kung Fu Kid was a copy of his work wasn’t public knowledge, the public’s intuition was sharp.

Despite the exaggerated comments, more and more people believed that SB had copied Ye Chui.

Ye Chui found these comments very satisfying.

“Hm?”

Just as Ye Chui was about to log off, he noticed several notification messages in his inbox.

They were from the owner of the Software Alliance.

The messages urged Ye Chui to continue releasing games on the Software Alliance, offering him compensation and various benefits, like featuring his games on the forum’s homepage.

The forum’s owner wanted to retain Ye Chui, seeing the forum’s traffic soar with his games.

But Ye Chui wasn’t interested in accepting the offer.

He still remembered how Lefty Xiao was fired for helping him. So, he bluntly replied to the owner, “Sorry, Stack-Em-Up will be my last game on the Software Alliance.”

With his own game mall now open, Ye Chui had no need for the Software Alliance. Besides, there were few classic games left to develop as quickly as Tetris. Short-term, his focus was on arcade games.

After replying, Ye Chui logged off the forum.

“Tiandi Mall is almost here.”

On the top floor of Tiandi Mall, Golden Sun Entertainment Center.

Although it was still early morning and usually quiet, the center was bustling. Many people had heard about the launch event and came to check it out.

SB, as a major player in the industry, went all out for the launch of Kung Fu Kid. They had invited over a dozen media outlets for a full-fledged press conference.

On the makeshift stage, staff were making final adjustments.

Wang Zhaoming, as the game development manager, Jian Fan, as the creative director, and the head of the software department, Huang Xiaotian, all stood by in suits, waiting.

Seeing the line of photographers and reporters, Huang Xiaotian felt somewhat satisfied. Wang Zhaoming and Jian Fan, however, were nervous, constantly swallowing.

“SB really knows how to make a splash. We’ve got a full-on press conference. Those poor guys at Ye Chui’s studio can’t compete with this,” Jian Fan gloated.

“Exactly. Not just anyone can get the media to show up,” Wang Zhaoming agreed. “This event will be all over TV and newspapers. That’s the difference!”

Huang Xiaotian, adjusting his tie as usual, smiled at their conversation, sharing their sense of superiority.

The press conference was set for 10 AM, complete with performances. Such high-end, prestigious publicity was beyond what Ye Chui’s small studio could achieve.

“When Ye Chui gets here, he’ll realize the gap between him and SB,” Huang Xiaotian thought.

But then, a commotion arose among the reporters. They suddenly rushed toward the entrance.

—Someone important must have arrived.

“What’s going on?” Wang Zhaoming quickly grabbed a reporter to ask.

“Let go, or I’ll miss it,” the reporter said, trying to break free. “The legendary Professor Cha is here. I need to interview him and get the scoop. You can wait.”

With that, the reporter broke free and ran toward the entrance.

Wang Zhaoming: “…”

Jian Fan: “…”

Huang Xiaotian: “…”
