ROSGT Chapter 6: Professor X
"Who is this god that released the game?" Jian Fan asked.
"He's a newcomer named Professor X," the fat guy Fang Xi replied.
Professor X was the online alias Ye Chui came up with for himself. Since he was confined to a wheelchair, he had a sudden inspiration from the X-Men’s Professor X when registering his username.
However, Jian Fan and Fang Xi’s sister were both puzzled by the name.
In this world, there were no X-Men comics or films.
"Professor X?" Jian Fan frowned in thought. "Could this person be a university professor?"
"Is his surname X? Strange, is there even such a surname in Huaxia? I’ve never heard of it," Fang Xi’s sister wondered aloud. Her large eyes suddenly lit up. "Jian Fan, let's invite Professor X to join our studio. With him, our studio’s reputation would definitely improve!"
"Exactly, he could have more great ideas if he came up with Link-Up," Fang Xi chimed in. Although he had only been playing Link-Up for a little over an hour, he already regarded it as the love of his life and was eager to meet Professor X.
However, Jian Fan looked hesitant. "Fang Nan, Fang Xi, don’t get carried away. While Link-Up has made a splash, it’s crudely made and relies solely on its novel idea. We can’t be sure if Professor X is truly talented."
"If he can come up with something like Link-Up, he’s definitely smart and would be very useful in our studio," Fang Xi’s sister, Fang Nan, argued.
As the leader of the studio, Jian Fan had the final say on who could join. The studio was named Jian Fan Studio, and any new additions had to get his approval.
"We can't be sure about that. Our studio already has four people. Adding another might be too much for us to handle…" Jian Fan said, looking troubled.
In reality, he wasn't worried about the financial burden. He was concerned about his authority. As the founder of the studio, he had control over what software they developed. In a small workshop like theirs, good ideas were everything. If Professor X joined and brought in better ideas, Jian Fan's position could be threatened.
Fang Xi said, "I can take a pay cut if necessary. The most important thing is that with Professor X in our studio, our performance might improve."
The fat guy already revered Professor X as a deity.
Fang Nan added, "Jian Fan, the cost isn’t the issue. The point is we can’t let such talent slip away."
Seeing the siblings both agree, Jian Fan felt annoyed but couldn't argue. He thought, "They both want him, and that reclusive girl will likely agree too. If I keep refusing, it will look bad… Hmph, Professor X might not even be interested in joining our small studio. I’ll let the fat guy contact him and see."
With that in mind, Jian Fan nodded and said to Fang Xi, "Alright, I also hope our studio can have such a talent. It would ease my burden. Fang Xi, go ahead and contact him to see if he’s interested."
"Got it!" Fang Xi immediately logged into the Software Alliance, eager to send a message.
Meanwhile, Fang Nan excitedly continued playing Link-Up, completely forgetting her previous scolding about her brother not completing his tasks.
Seeing this, Jian Fan was a bit displeased but said nothing. He glanced at the Link-Up game on the screen, hesitated for a moment, then sat down to play as well… He had to admit, the game was really fun!
Fang Xi quickly composed a heartfelt message and sent it out.
In the studio, Fang Xi was mainly responsible for artwork and posting their software on the Software Alliance.
He was about to close the forum and continue playing Link-Up when he noticed something that made him shiver—a notification in the forum’s backend. Someone had commented on his post, and the words "Professor X" stood out brightly.
Trembling, Fang Xi opened the post and scrolled to the bottom to find Professor X’s comment.
"This software is well-made, but it lacks playability. I suggest adding a timing system and a scoring system. Include some special items in the map for the cat to find and earn points. Set levels with specific tasks requiring players to achieve a certain score within a time limit."
Little Cat’s Adventure was a software created by Fang Xi.
However, this software wasn’t a product of the studio but was Fang Xi’s personal project.
When he first made it, his sister Fang Nan and Jian Fan mocked him for making a useless piece of junk. Fang Xi had been depressed for a long time. But now, Professor X had given him advice.
"Not playable… timing system? Scoring system? And setting levels, tasks?"
Fang Xi’s small eyes suddenly lit up.
It wasn’t a coincidence that he had created Little Cat’s Adventure. He had indeed grasped some basic game frameworks and experimented with them. But as Ye Chui pointed out, his creation lacked crucial elements.
Seeing Ye Chui’s comment, Fang Xi felt as if he had been enlightened, as if an electric current had jolted through him. Excited, he muttered, "Timing, scoring, levels, tasks… If I add these elements, this software called Little Cat’s Adventure—no, this game—will become…"
Fang Xi's small eyes gleamed even brighter.
He forgot about continuing to play Link-Up and instead quickly opened his programming software, eager to implement Ye Chui’s suggestions.
He had a strong feeling that adding those elements would transform the game dramatically!
—At this time, Ye Chui had no idea that his casual comments would have such a profound impact on a chubby young man.
