Chapter 5: Lonely Seeker of Slimness

“In heaven, mom, you no longer have to worry about my happiness. I’ve found the love of my life, and its name is Link-Up…”

Ye Chui was browsing through the post comments when he saw this message, and he couldn't help but laugh. He didn’t expect someone to be this funny and say such things.

Curious, Ye Chui took note of the username of the commenter: “Lonely Seeker of Slimness.”

“Lonely Seeker of Slimness? That’s an interesting name.”

Ye Chui tapped on the screen to enter Lonely Seeker of Slimness’s profile page.

“Huh? This person has also published quite a few pieces of software…”

Lonely Seeker of Slimness had posted a variety of original software. Ye Chui casually browsed through them until he came across one that made him pause: “Little Cat’s Adventure? Is this… a game?”

Ye Chui was shocked. He had previously researched extensively online and confirmed that there were no games in this world, only some puzzle software like Go and Chess. He didn't expect to accidentally discover something that resembled a real game!

The Little Cat’s Adventure software cost five Alliance Coins to download and was about five megabytes in size. Ye Chui hurriedly downloaded and installed it on his optical brain, eager to try it out.

Soon, Ye Chui was disappointed.

“It seems this Lonely Seeker of Slimness has grasped the basic concept of a game but hasn’t perfected it. Although Little Cat’s Adventure has some game framework, its playability is very low—or rather, it’s non-existent. All you do is control a little cat wandering around with no rewards or challenges. Only someone with too much time on their hands would bother with this.”

This was already a prototype of a game.

Although technology developed through war had not yet been applied to gaming and entertainment, some people were starting to experiment with simple concepts.

Unfortunately, Lonely Seeker of Slimness’s attempt had failed.

Ye Chui sighed and checked out Lonely Seeker of Slimness’s other software, but found nothing else similar.

“It seems Little Cat’s Adventure was just a random creation. It’s a pity. If they had added a bit more content, they could have made a fortune!” Ye Chui remarked. Although the gameplay of Little Cat’s Adventure was lacking, the graphics were well-done. Adding a few elements could significantly enhance its playability.

But these few elements were crucial. In a world with almost no gaming industry, these elements were the most valuable aspects of a game.

Little Cat’s Adventure had less than a thousand downloads, attracting no attention at all.

“What a pity…” Ye Chui shook his head, planning to close the page. Then he thought it was a shame for such a well-made software to go unnoticed, so he casually left a comment on the download post for Little Cat’s Adventure.

“This software is well-made, but it lacks playability. I suggest adding a timing system and a scoring system. Include some special items in the map that the cat can find to earn points. Set levels with specific tasks requiring players to achieve a certain score within a time limit.”

After leaving the comment, Ye Chui stopped paying attention to it and closed the page.

He browsed the post comments for a while longer, then checked the download count again. In just half an hour, the downloads had increased to over fifty thousand. Feeling happy, Ye Chui stretched and finally succumbed to his exhaustion.

“After crossing into this world and becoming a cripple, I can finally sleep comfortably today!”

In an apartment in the suburbs.

The dimly lit room housed three high-powered optical brain devices. Unlike portable optical brains, these were stationary and more professional.

At this moment, three people were seated in front of the optical brains, their hands moving swiftly across the screens.

There were two men and one woman.

One of them was a large, obese man with chubby fingers that moved nimbly. He kept tapping on the screen and muttering, “Hurry up, hurry up, there’s not enough time… Damn it, just a little more. I have to try again. I refuse to believe I can’t beat this level!”

The fat man was playing Link-Up!

“Fang Xi, that’s enough!” The only girl in the room finally couldn’t stand it anymore and jumped up. “You’ve been muttering for the past hour! Yesterday, you didn’t finish your task, slowing down our studio’s progress. If you don’t complete your task today, I’ll beat you up.”

“Sis, if you keep being so fierce, no one will dare to marry you.” Fang Xi teased, but seeing his sister’s murderous glare, he quickly added, “It’s not my fault! This entertainment software is just too fun.”

“Entertainment software? Fun?” The other guy in the room, wearing black-rimmed glasses and looking scholarly, smiled. “What’s so fun about entertainment software?”

“Jian Fan, you should try it!” Fang Xi exclaimed. “I’ll send you a copy, and Sis, I’ll send you one too. I guarantee you’ll both get hooked quickly.”

Jian Fan and Fang Xi’s sister both looked indifferent, but they accepted the software Fang Xi sent them and started to try it out.

Moments later.

“Wow, this software is really interesting! You connect two identical patterns to eliminate them, and you have to clear all the patterns within a certain time… The person who came up with this idea is a genius!”

The girl exclaimed, her voice contrasting sharply with her sweet appearance.

Jian Fan, the guy with black-rimmed glasses, couldn’t help but say, “It’s indeed quite interesting. I didn’t know software could be designed like this… Fang Xi, where did you find this software?”

“I downloaded it from the Software Alliance,” Fang Xi replied. “It was uploaded just about an hour and a half ago, and it’s already been downloaded over fifty thousand times.”

“What?” Jian Fan was shocked. “This software is that popular? The best our studio has ever done is twenty thousand downloads.”

“I told you so.” Fang Xi looked smug. “I’ve already commented on the post. This entertainment software… Oh, they call it a game. I’ve found the love of my life, and it’s Link-Up!”

—This fat guy, Fang Xi, was Lonely Seeker of Slimness.
