Chapter 169: Recruiting Game Developers

After returning from the "City Topics" program, Ye Chui was constantly pondering some matters related to game development. He had an idea for a while, but it had never fully matured. Now, this idea was gradually taking shape in his mind.

"There are so many fighting games in the other world; it would be a shame if they were buried. However, with the current manpower of Wolverine Game Studio, it’s impossible to divert attention to develop more games. So... I’ll have to expand the studio!" Ye Chui thought continuously.

He had initially planned to delay the expansion until he could grow the studio into something comparable to the famous EA, Ubisoft, Activision, etc., from the other world. However, the operation of a studio relies on a game company, and Ye Chui would need to establish a large game company first to ensure coordination in all aspects of game development.

But setting up a game company is too complicated, and Ye Chui currently doesn’t have the energy to handle so many things. So, he could only make some preliminary preparations.

"Fang Xi, you know a lot of people online. You should have contact with other similar software studios, right?" Ye Chui asked Fang Xi after returning to the studio and finding him about to go out for a run.

"Yes, I do. What’s up, Brother Cha?" Fang Xi asked curiously while jogging in place.

"Are any of them interested in developing games?" Ye Chui continued.

Fang Xi stopped jogging, looking even more curious. "Yes, a lot of them are. Many of them beg me every day to take them under my wing... Brother Cha, are you thinking about recruiting more people for the studio?"

Hearing Fang Xi say this, Fang Nan, Eva, and Robert also looked at Ye Chui with curiosity.

"No." Ye Chui shook his head, smiling, "I’m not looking to recruit more people but to expand the studio."

"Expand the studio?"

Everyone was puzzled. Isn’t that the same as recruiting people?

"I want to select a few good studios and acquire them, making them subsidiary studios of Wolverine. They will develop games according to my requirements," Ye Chui explained his plan.

In simple terms, he was recruiting game development "subordinates." Ye Chui would provide game ideas and engines, letting these studios develop the games. He wouldn’t actively participate but would supervise the game development progress.

When the games were developed, the final copyrights would still belong to Ye Chui and be sold in the game store.

So, this studio expansion was essentially Ye Chui hiring these studios to work for him. This way, many classic arcade fighting games he had in mind could be developed and released through these subsidiary studios.

Upon hearing Ye Chui's idea, Fang Nan and the others naturally agreed. However, Eva raised a concern: "Professor Cha, this is certainly good. But isn’t it difficult to come up with good game ideas? Won’t you tire yourself out?"

"Don’t worry, it’s fine," Ye Chui said with a smile. After all, he was just borrowing ideas from the other world.

Eva was still somewhat hesitant.

She knew that Ye Chui made this decision after seeing the strong reactions from the live audience on "City Topics." After all, most game fans expected Professor Cha to continue developing fighting games. Whether from a commercial perspective or for the fans, Ye Chui had every reason to continue developing fighting games.

But if too many games were released and they weren’t fun, it would be counterproductive.

Eva was worried about this, and Robert was too. However, Fang Nan and Fang Xi were completely unconcerned.

Before Ye Chui could respond, Fang Xi chuckled and patted Eva’s shoulder, "You’re overthinking it. Brother Cha has been paralyzed for the past six months with nothing else to do but think. His mind is full of game ideas, so you don’t have to worry about game creativity."

—Ye Chui had always used this reason to convince Fang Nan and Fang Xi.

This reason was indeed universal; Eva and Robert were convinced.

"So that’s how it is."

Eva nodded.

She suddenly glanced at Fang Xi’s hand on her shoulder.

Although it looked like a pat, it was more of a caress...

In the hot weather, Eva was wearing an off-shoulder outfit, and her smooth, tender skin felt great. Fang Xi, out of habit, had stroked her shoulder a couple more times.

Noticing Eva’s gaze, Fang Xi hurriedly retracted his hand and rushed outside, "I’m going for a run... Brother Cha, I’ll help you pick out studios in the next couple of days."

Eva touched her shoulder.

Although she looked hot and sexy, she was somewhat averse to physical contact with men. However... she didn’t seem to feel anything unusual when the chubby guy touched her shoulder earlier; it felt rather nice?

Her face blushed slightly, and Eva hurriedly turned back to her room.

"What just happened?" Fang Nan asked, looking at Eva’s back in surprise. "Has Fang Xi’s relationship with Eva become more intimate recently?"

"A bit." Ye Chui nodded.

At least Eva had stopped performing her wavy motions in front of him lately.

Of course, she still dressed provocatively.

Later that evening, Fang Xi posted on Professor Cha’s game website, inviting capable and trustworthy game development studios or small companies to join.

This naturally attracted a lot of attention, and many people applied.

Fang Xi and Robert then devised some test projects to prove these studios or small companies had the capability to develop games for them.

It would take some time to see the results.

In the following days, the violent incidents triggered by the arcade game slowly decreased.

Although "City Topics" was only broadcasted in Yanjing, in the optical computer era, the video quickly spread online.

Naturally, Ye Chui’s statement about developing the last arcade game caused a stir, but fortunately, the news of his studio expansion, spread by Fang Xi online, prevented any negative consequences.

The arcade equipment issue was effectively resolved.

Ye Chui contacted several manufacturers interested in producing arcade machines, and a new batch of arcade equipment should be available soon.

A few days passed like this.

“Nannan, accompany me somewhere later.” Ye Chui smiled at Fang Nan during breakfast.

“What for?”

“To visit my dad... oh, no, to visit his factory. He found an old factory in Fengshan and has completed some paperwork. I want to go check it out today,” Ye Chui said with a smile.

In reality, Ye Chui had contacted his father, Ye Haishan, last night, and he had expressed a desire to meet Fang Nan.

Ye Chui’s mother, Zhou Yayun, and his sister, Ye Ling, had already met Fang Nan and had praised her several times. Naturally, Ye Haishan was curious and wanted to meet his future daughter-in-law.

Ye Chui had agreed without much thought at the time, but later realized it could be tricky.

Although Fang Nan usually behaved like a tomboy, she often became shy about such matters. If Ye Chui directly asked her to meet his father, she probably wouldn’t agree.

So, Ye Chui changed his strategy, suggesting they visit the factory.

Fang Nan didn’t think much and agreed immediately. “Alright, I’ll drive you there.”

“Uh, we can take the bus.” Ye Chui quickly said.

“Buses are too troublesome. Driving is better.” Fang Nan insisted, “You don’t know, Chui Chui, the road to Fengshan is rough and bumpy. It’s not safe to take the bus.”

“...”

Ye Chui was speechless. Rough road? Bumpy? Unsafe?

Driving with Fang Nan was even more dangerous!

He started to regret suggesting the factory visit.

Unfortunately, it was too late to back out. Fang Nan turned to Fang Xi, “The car’s low on fuel. Fang Xi, go fill it up.”

“Oh, okay.” Fang Xi agreed and then smiled at Ye Chui, “Brother Cha, don’t worry. It’s only a two-hour drive.”

“...”

Damn, this chubby guy is doing this on purpose, isn’t he!?

After breakfast, Fang Xi drove the already somewhat battered car to a nearby gas station.

There were a few cars in line, so Fang Xi had to get out and chat with an attendant to pass the time.

“Your car looks pretty beat up. Why don’t you get it fixed?” the attendant asked curiously.

“No need to fix it,” Fang Xi replied casually.

“Why, can it fix itself?” the attendant joked.

Fang Xi laughed, “I wish it could. The problem is, fixing it is pointless. This car belongs to my sister, and any car in her hands is scrapped in a few months. So... why bother?”

“Is your sister that rough on cars? Really?”

The attendant had seen Fang Xi’s sister before, a pure beauty. He had wanted to chat her up several times but always felt intimidated...

At that moment, the attendant’s eyes gleamed as he asked, “Your sister is really pretty. Does she have a boyfriend?”

Fang Xi slapped the attendant’s forehead, “Stop thinking about my sister. She’s in a relationship now. Today, she’s going out with her boyfriend, so she asked me to fill up the car.”

“Where are they going?”

“Fengshan,” Fang Xi replied casually.

“A trip?” the attendant continued to probe. Fengshan was nearby, known for its nice scenery, a popular spot for couples.

“Hey, why do you care so much?” Fang Xi was getting impatient.

The attendant chuckled and didn’t ask further.

At that moment, in one of the cars waiting for fuel, a pale, sinister-looking man overheard Fang Xi and the attendant’s

 conversation.

“Fengshan?” A cruel smile appeared on his face, “That place, though scenic, is also a perfect spot for murder and body disposal... This time, the target will definitely not escape!”

The sinister man was Blood Fox, now recovered.

His eyes gleamed with a cold, ruthless light... and he took out his diary to start writing.

**Blood Fox Diary, August 21st, xxx year, weather: clear.**

I only came to fuel up this morning but unexpectedly overheard such crucial information.

It seems my luck is indeed good.

The target and that vicious female bodyguard are heading to Fengshan today.

In the wilderness, that place will be the target’s death ground!

This time, I must complete the mission; the target cannot escape!
