Chapter 15: The Shamate Youth
The software development community was currently in turmoil.
Professor X’s second game in development was attracting immense attention. Thanks to the bet between SB's expert and Lonely Seeking Thin on the Software Talent Show, almost everyone in the community knew about it.
This was blatant hype, although this world didn't yet have a concept for it.
What frustrated Ye Cui the most was the backwardness of this world's entertainment. Even trivial matters could be blown out of proportion. It was said that the major news websites had already put this bet on their homepages. "Eating three kilograms of words" had become a hot phrase.
Was it necessary to be this serious?
The most ironic part was that Professor X, the center of this storm, had been buried in game development for the past few days, completely oblivious to it.
Listening to his sister recount the events of the past few days with excitement, Ye Cui was speechless.
He deeply felt that the children in this world were quite pitiful, finding so much amusement in such trivial matters...
After Ye Ling finished recounting, she casually brought up a question that had been circulating online: “What exactly is that ‘words’ Professor X mentioned in his message?”
Ye Cui almost spat out his drink. It was hard to accept his sister saying this with such a pure expression.
Just then, Ye Ling suddenly exclaimed and waved towards someone in the distance.
Following his sister’s gaze, Ye Cui saw a rebellious youth with a Shamate style standing coolly under a large tree. He obviously knew Ye Ling and waved back, but didn’t walk over, seeming a bit shy.
Ye Cui glanced at his sister and saw a blush on her face, which explained a lot.
In this world, Shamate was not yet a synonym for tacky, but rather a symbol of fashion and trendiness. Sporting a Shamate style made one the center of attention. Currently, all the big stars had this look—this was a major reason why Ye Cui couldn’t fully embrace this world’s entertainment scene.
Honestly, even the famous Wash, Cut, Blow trio from the original world felt more appealing...
“Brother, let me take you back...” Ye Ling said softly, looking down.
“Heh, your friend?” Ye Cui teased with a smile, “It’s fine, I can go back by myself. Don’t keep him waiting.”
Ye Ling glanced at the Shamate youth again, hesitated briefly, then nodded, “Alright... And, brother, could you not tell mom and dad...”
“Okay, I get it.” Ye Cui replied knowingly. Although he couldn’t appreciate the Shamate style, it was the mainstream here. Besides, his sister was already an adult. As an older brother, he shouldn’t interfere too much in her love life. He just smiled and advised, “Just be careful.”
“Yes, I will.” Ye Ling agreed, then tidied her checkered shirt’s collar and walked shyly towards the Shamate youth.
After chatting for a while under the tree, Ye Ling waved back at Ye Cui and left with the Shamate youth.
Ye Cui no longer felt like basking in the sun in the park. He hurried back to his room and logged into the Software Alliance.
In recent days, he had only been checking the download numbers for Link Link, neglecting other sections. Now, he realized what a big deal the bet had become. Browsing the forum, Ye Cui couldn’t help but smile wryly. His sister was right.
It was touching that Lonely Seeking Thin supported him so much, even betting on eating three kilograms of words...
While Ye Cui was confident in the entertainment value of his game, Lonely Seeking Thin’s almost blind support was still moving.
“By the way, I sent a message to Lonely Seeking Thin’s studio a while ago. Why haven’t they replied?” Ye Cui wondered, quickly finding the reason, “Oh, my, I had my network brain’s communication function turned off...”
Ye Cui felt a bit embarrassed. The network brain, a combination of a phone and a computer, was powerful and portable, with communication being just one of its functions. Ye Cui had turned it off out of habit and only now realized it.
He quickly turned on the communication function, and immediately, the network brain notified him of over thirty missed communications.
Ye Cui felt overwhelmed. He thought, great, I probably hurt my number one fan’s feelings.
He was about to redial the missed calls when, coincidentally, another communication request came through from the same number.
This time, Ye Cui answered immediately.
Before he could say anything, a series of excited shouts came from the other end: “Professor X, is that you? Is it really you? You finally answered my call! I knew you would. Those thirty-plus calls were your test, right? Wow, I’m so persistent. Professor X, you’re really my idol...”
“...”
Ye Cui rolled his eyes. He had intended to apologize to Lonely Seeking Thin, but it seemed unnecessary. His number one fan was truly devoted.
Many people might not understand why Fang Xi admired Ye Cui so much.
Even Fang Xi’s somewhat infatuated tomboy sister only had a slight admiration for Ye Cui, far from Fang Xi’s level of reverence. Fang Xi’s fanaticism stemmed from Ye Cui’s previous message: simple and direct, yet it had been an epiphany for Fang Xi.
After developing Little Cat Adventure 2.0, many credited Fang Xi for the game. But only Fang Xi knew that without Ye Cui’s guidance, the game would have been trash.
In his mind, Ye Cui was a god-like figure.
Fang Xi rambled on for a while before Ye Cui could get a word in edgewise. When Fang Xi paused for breath, Ye Cui finally spoke: “Uh... I’d like to join your studio, if that’s okay?”
“Huh!?” Fang Xi was initially stunned, then overjoyed, “Professor X, are you serious? You want to join our studio?”
“Yes, I think we should meet to discuss it further,” Ye Cui said with a smile.
He wasn’t picky about choosing a studio because he was confident that his vast array of game ideas could make any studio soar.
Besides, Jianfan Studio didn’t seem too bad.
“Meet...?” Fang Xi shouted excitedly, “Where? Professor X, where do you live? I’ll come to you.”
Ye Cui thought for a moment and said, “Tell me where your studio is. I’ll come to you.”
