The two-day registration period came to an end.
Next up were the university-wide freshman assembly, the college freshman assembly, and then the class meeting in the evening.
At the class meeting, they met their class advisor.
The class advisor was a young teacher who had just graduated with a PhD and decided to stay at the school. He wore thick glasses on his nose, giving off a scholarly air, and his name was Qin Gang.
Qin Gang delivered the usual welcome speech and gave a brief introduction to the college and the major.
Then, based on the students' entrance exam scores, he temporarily appointed the class cadres, with elections to be held next semester.
To Chang Le's surprise, his score didn't rank at the top, as those were all dominated by students from major provinces known for high college entrance exam scores.
Qin Gang emphasized a few points of attention before concluding the meeting.
"Students, one last thing, according to the college regulations, everyone is required to participate in military training..."
"If there are indeed special reasons why you cannot participate, come to my office after the meeting to explain."
"That's all for the class meeting. The class president should create a group, and any announcements can be made there. Meeting adjourned. Also, be safe on your way back to the dorms, no rushing around."
With that, Qin Gang left.
Yang Haichuan sighed, "Ah, this is my third military training, counting middle school and high school. Goodness."
Huang Haibo said, "Yeah, look at these past two days of registration, not a hint of rain despite the scorching sun."
Yang Haichuan asked, "Hey, where's Chang Le?"
Zhu Gang replied, "I just saw him leave."
Huang Haibo said, "Oh, didn't even wait for us."
In Qin Gang's office...
"Student, what's your name again..." Qin Gang scratched his head, momentarily forgetting the name he had just heard.
"Teacher Qin, my name is Chang Le," Chang Le said.
"Oh, right, you're Chang Le. What can I do for you?" Qin Gang nodded.
Chang Le handed over an application report and a medical record sheet:
"Teacher Qin, I'm applying not to participate in military training."
Qin Gang glanced over the application report and went straight to the medical record sheet, where there was a diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmia, with a doctor's signature and the official seal of the hospital department.
"Irregular heartbeat? Or premature ventricular contractions?" Qin Gang was puzzled. "What are the symptoms?"
"I was diagnosed in high school. I have symptoms like palpitations, dizziness, chest tightness, headaches, and fatigue. Sometimes it feels like my heart is about to jump out," Chang Le explained.
"So serious? You're only 18, how did you get this illness?" Qin Gang inquired.
"Just unlucky, caught a cold in high school, which triggered myocarditis. After it was treated, I developed premature ventricular contractions as a sequel," Chang Le replied.
"Is it dangerous?"
"It can be controlled with long-term medication."
"Oh, that's good then. Alright, you won't participate in military training. I'll explain the situation to the college. Take care of yourself and don't overwork," Qin Gang said.
"Thank you, Teacher Qin."
"No problem, you can go back now." Qin Gang waved his hand.
After Chang Le left the office, Qin Gang took out a stack of medical records from the drawer.
This stack of medical records contained various illnesses.
Enteritis, dysmenorrhea, chronic appendicitis, asthma, electrolyte imbalance... and now, premature ventricular contractions.
Some of the illnesses looked obviously fake, like dysmenorrhea... how could that be verified? Even the school hospital couldn't tell.
Qin Gang clipped Chang Le's medical record sheet with the others and chuckled softly.
He had no intention of investigating further. True or false, what did it matter? There was a time when he was one of them too.
...
The next day, dawn broke, and the bugle sounded.
Yang Haichuan and the other two immediately got out of bed, put on their military uniforms, finished washing up, and prepared to leave, only to find Chang Le still fast asleep in bed.
Yang Haichuan walked over and shook Chang Le awake. "Chang Le, are you still sleeping? It's time to assemble."
Chang Le rubbed his eyes, sat up, and replied groggily, "Oh... you guys go ahead, I'll catch up later."
"Well, hurry up then. Don't be late on the first day, or you'll definitely get punished with standing," Yang Haichuan warned.
"Yeah... got it. You guys go on ahead, I'll catch up soon," Chang Le mumbled.
Yang Haichuan and the other two quickly left the dormitory, leaving Chang Le to fall back asleep in bed.
When he woke up again, it was already mid-morning.
He checked the time on his phone and saw that it was already past 9:10.
Yawning, he put on a plain white T-shirt and got out of bed. "Time to get to work."
After brushing his teeth and washing his face, he headed out.
He bought breakfast at a breakfast shop outside the apartment building and boarded the bus to the commercial district.
The sales department of the Jingjiang Manor was deserted, with few people coming to view the properties. Most of them were idle elderly men and women from the neighborhood.
It was more like a gathering place for a drink of water, air conditioning, and maybe some fruits than a real estate viewing.
The saleswomen were used to it anyway; after all, it wasn't their money they were spending.
A few of the saleswomen were quite interested in chatting with the elderly customers.
Maybe, as in novels, with satisfactory service, the elderly customers would take out their bank cards, swipe them generously, and happily buy a unit.
This residential area had been on the market for over a year, and nearly 50% of the units were still unsold.
From pre-sale to current sale, property rights had already been transferred.
The main reason for this was, naturally, the price.
The current property prices in Jiangzhou were less than 5000 yuan per square meter, which was 1.6 times the monthly salary of an ordinary worker.
Meanwhile, the average price of Jingjiang Manor was yuan per square meter, with the better floors even exceeding 20,000 yuan per square meter.
For the working class, it would take them half a year's salary just to buy one square meter. The potential customer base was small, and the actual number of buyers was limited.
However, the fact that over half of the units had been sold in two years proved that there were still many wealthy people in Jiangzhou, and the developers were making a fortune.
The reason for the high price was mainly the location, location, location, with the quality of the properties also playing a role.
In terms of quality, the residential area had a floor area ratio of 0.9, making it a low-density improved residential area.
With a green coverage rate of over 70%, the area was filled with lush trees, some of which had been there for decades and were so thick that several people couldn't wrap their arms around them, providing shade like a park.
In fact, this piece of land was originally a corner of the Jingjiang Park. The developer acquired it at a high price for residential development, and all the original trees were preserved without any being removed, and many large trees were even transplanted.
Given this, the initial intention of this residential area was not, and could not be, affordable housing for the general public.
After all, aside from the high unit price, the smallest unit was 200 square meters, and the largest unit was a 460-square-meter luxury flat. Could this be considered affordable housing?
Looking at the location, behind the Jingjiang Manor was the Jingjiang Park, colorful and lush all year round;
In front was the rolling Jingjiang River, flowing eastward ceaselessly day and night.
The view was unparalleled, allowing one to express their emotions freely, with the horizon bending up to the clouds, and the land bearing fruits as sweet as the Nine Provinces below.
In terms of facilities, the Jiangzhou Experimental Primary School and Experimental Middle School were just 1 kilometer away to the left;
A few kilometers to the right was the University City, with Jiang University, Teacher's University, Engineering University, Medical College, and various vocational colleges all clustered together.
Whether the air was filled with scholarly atmosphere or not was uncertain, but it was undoubtedly youthful and vibrant.
In addition, crossing the Jingjiang Bridge led to Jiangzhou's pedestrian street and commercial center.
In Jiangzhou, it couldn't be determined if this location was the most central, but it was definitely a secondary central location, with scarce resources, so the developer capitalized on this, building big and selling high!
More than ten years later, the average property price in Jiangzhou surpassed 20,000 yuan per square meter, and the second-hand houses here could still be sold for 80,000 to 100,000 yuan per square meter. Amidst the emergence of luxury homes and increasingly fierce competition, it steadfastly held its position in the top three, never falling out.
