SED Chapter 25: Signing the Contract
After dropping off Yueyue and Menghan at kindergarten, Lang Wenxing took Liu Zixia directly back to the company.
Wenxing Entertainment Media Company was located in the Jinghua High-Tech Art Development Zone, housed in a 21-story office building. It was more fitting to call Wenxing Entertainment a conglomerate rather than just a company.
At this moment, on the 21st floor of Wenxing Entertainment’s office building, word had spread that the company’s CEO personally signed a relatively unknown newcomer, and it was even in the form of a studio collaboration.
“Hey, have you heard? The company signed a new artist.”
“That’s old news. It’s not just the company signing a new artist; it’s the CEO signing one.”
“Is there a difference? Aren’t they all our company’s artists?”
“Nope, it’s a studio within our company!”
The 21st floor housed all the senior executives of Wenxing Entertainment, and right now, they were all talking about it.
If the senior executives were this astonished, imagine how the company’s other artists would feel—they’d be green with envy.
“Alright, alright, enough chatter. The CEO is here.”
Someone with sharp eyes saw Lang Wenxing approaching the building and quickly spread the word.
News traveled fast within the building, and soon the executives quieted down, though they all strained their necks to look in the direction of the elevator.
“Zixia, this is the office floor for the company’s executives,” Lang Wenxing said as he stepped out of the elevator first. “My office is at the end. If you need anything, just come directly to my office.”
Liu Zixia nodded without replying, quietly observing the surroundings.
The two walked straight to the CEO’s office, and the executives peeked through glass windows to catch a glimpse of this ‘newcomer.’
“Isn’t that the guy who sang ‘Just Met You’ at the Tree Restaurant?”
“It is! I knew he couldn’t be someone without any reputation!”
“Hey, where are the legal team folks? Let’s go ask what kind of contract they drafted for this guy.”
After some discussion, the executives made their way en masse to the legal department’s office area.
…
Lang Wenxing’s office was over a hundred square meters, divided into an inner and outer room. The outer room had an office desk, sofa, bookshelves, and even some fitness equipment.
It was clear that Lang Wenxing valued a healthy lifestyle.
The two of them sat down, and soon a secretary brought in tea and fruit.
Lang Wenxing took a contract out of a drawer and handed it to Liu Zixia. “Have a look, this is the newly drafted contract.”
Liu Zixia took the contract and read it carefully.
After reading it thoroughly, Liu Zixia confirmed that the new contract had no hidden traps and clarified any previously ambiguous terms.
“How is it? If you’re not satisfied, we can still make changes,” Lang Wenxing said with a smile, seeing Liu Zixia put down the contract.
“No major issues,” Liu Zixia replied, shaking his head. “But I’d like to discuss the rights to other properties with you, Brother Xing.”
“Other properties?” Lang Wenxing waved his hand dismissively. “No need to discuss those. As long as it doesn’t go through the studio, the company won’t take a share of any other revenue.”
After a moment’s thought, Lang Wenxing added, “Alright, we can add this condition to the contract. I’ll have the legal team draft the details.”
Liu Zixia nodded in agreement.
After all, while Wenxing Entertainment could claim a share of the entertainment-related earnings, it wouldn’t make sense for them to claim shares from his literary works or stock investments.
Including this clause in the contract would be beneficial for both parties, preventing future disputes over profits.
Without the usual commercial negotiation tricks, the future golden partners reached an agreement on the studio collaboration in a peaceful and amicable atmosphere.
Next, Lang Wenxing called in the legal team to revise the contract according to Liu Zixia’s requirements and printed out three copies.
Liu Zixia carefully reviewed them again before signing his name and pressing his fingerprint.
Lang Wenxing, as the CEO of Wenxing Entertainment and Liu Zixia’s agent, also signed and stamped the contract before formally extending his hand to Liu Zixia. “Zixia, welcome to Wenxing Entertainment!”
Liu Zixia smiled and shook Lang Wenxing’s hand. “Please take good care of me from now on!”
“Haha, of course! Come, let me introduce you to the company’s executives.”
Lang Wenxing laughed heartily, pulling Liu Zixia out of the CEO’s office. “Wenxing Entertainment is involved in various industries. All our department heads work on this floor.”
Liu Zixia’s interest was piqued. “Does my studio have a separate area?”
“Of course,” Lang Wenxing replied. “I’ll show you around the company first, then take you to your studio.”
Lang Wenxing proceeded to give Liu Zixia a tour of Wenxing Entertainment’s various departments.
In essence, it was just an endless series of introductions. Wenxing Entertainment Media Company had 400 employees, including 21 senior executives, plus the contracted artists, totaling 430 people.
After touring the company, Liu Zixia had met all the department heads. At least now, he could put names to faces and avoid any awkward mistakes in the future.
Half an hour later, Lang Wenxing took Liu Zixia to the easternmost office area on the 20th floor.
This area was entirely separated from the rest of the 20th floor by glass doors and occupied one-fifth of the floor’s total space—230 square meters.
“Zixia, this will be your place from now on,” Lang Wenxing said, pointing to the empty office area. “However you want to set it up, just let me know. If you find designing it too troublesome, we can hire a designer to take care of it.”
Liu Zixia thought for a moment. “Brother Xing, I don’t have many requirements. Can you just carve out a soundproof resting room for me?”
“That’s for Yueyue, right?” Lang Wenxing said with a wave of his hand. “No problem. I’ll make sure to prepare all the necessary furniture and appliances. You could even live here if you want.”
“Thank you, Brother Xing,” Liu Zixia said, feeling quite satisfied.
Lang Wenxing suddenly asked, “By the way, since it’s just you in the studio for now, do you plan to hire staff yourself, or should the company handle it?”
“Give me two slots; I’ll take care of the rest,” Liu Zixia said, thinking of Song Qingshan and Su Pangzi. Rather than hiring outsiders, he’d prefer to give the opportunity to his brothers.
