SED Chapter 21: Don’t You Know Me?
Zhigong Building, located in the heart of Huaxi Opera’s campus, houses the offices of the university’s professors, associate professors, and administrative leaders.
Walking along the shaded path toward Zhigong Building, Liu Zixia and the girl maintained an unspoken understanding, neither initiating conversation.
The video "Under the Tree, Just Happened to Meet You!" was still trending, and students on the way recognized Liu Zixia, greeting him or asking for photos, to which Liu Zixia responded calmly.
As they reached Zhigong Building, the girl suddenly spoke, “Classmate, you’re quite popular at Huaxi Opera!”
“It’s nothing,” Liu Zixia smiled, “Maybe it’s just that I’m easily recognizable.”
“No, I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before.” The girl, having not looked closely at Liu Zixia’s face before, now found it familiar. “Have you been on some talent show?”
In this world, although various entertainment industries developed slowly, talent shows were given special attention, with numerous seasons of shows like "Happy Girls" and "Super Boys."
“I’ve never participated in one. Maybe I just have a common face that’s easy to remember.”
Liu Zixia shook his head and pointed at Zhigong Building, “Professor Chen’s office is on the third floor, the sixth door on the left side of the elevator, with a nameplate on the door. It’s easy to find. Well, goodbye then!”
After speaking, Liu Zixia turned to leave.
As he turned, the girl suddenly took off her sunglasses and called out, “Classmate!”
“Hmm?”
Liu Zixia stopped and turned around.
Wow! Just as he thought, she was indeed a beautiful girl: behind the sunglasses were two curved eyebrows and a pair of bright, expressive eyes, as exquisite as a figure in a painting.
Even someone like Liu Zixia, who had seen many beauties in his past life, couldn’t help but silently praise her beauty.
Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Liu Zixia asked, “Is there anything else?”
The girl, confident in her appearance, felt a bit crushed seeing Liu Zixia quickly snap out of his admiration.
Wiping her sunglasses to cover her embarrassment, she continued, “Don’t you recognize me?”
“Should I?” Liu Zixia shook his head, answering honestly.
“Oh.” The girl seemed a bit disoriented, “Classmate, are you in the performance department?”
“Yeah.” Liu Zixia nodded.
“Then, we’ll meet again!” The girl suddenly brightened up, “By then, you’ll definitely recognize me!”
With that, the girl put her sunglasses back on and walked towards Zhigong Building.
Liu Zixia watched her leave, puzzled, muttering to himself, “Is she crazy?”
...
After the unexpected encounter, Liu Zixia returned to his dormitory, only to find it empty, making him wonder if he had entered the wrong room.
Just as Liu Zixia pondered where to go, a savior arrived: Zhang Minghao, the owner of the Tree Restaurant, called him, saying he had something to discuss.
Bored and with nothing else to do, Liu Zixia gladly accepted.
When Liu Zixia arrived at the Tree Restaurant, Old Zhang was already waiting at the door.
“Liu, you’re finally here.” Zhang Minghao grabbed Liu Zixia’s arm and pulled him towards the second floor, “Come on, don’t keep the guest waiting.”
Liu Zixia asked in confusion, “Brother Hao, who’s here?”
“A big shot!” Zhang Minghao said happily, “Thanks to you, this stubborn old bull finally contacted me.”
“What’s going on?” Liu Zixia was completely puzzled.
Dragged up to the second-floor private room by Zhang Minghao, they entered, and Zhang immediately called out, “Old Lang, I’ve brought the person you wanted.”
A middle-aged man in a sharp suit was already waiting on the sofa.
Seeing them enter, the middle-aged man quickly stood up.
“Hello, Mr. Liu, I’m Lang Wenxing from Wenxing Entertainment Media.”
Lang Wenxing took a few steps forward and extended his hand to Liu Zixia, “We contacted each other a few days ago, but you were busy then and didn’t have much time to talk.”
Lang Wenxing?
Liu Zixia was momentarily stunned but soon remembered receiving a call from someone named Lang Wenxing a day or two ago.
What puzzled him was why Lang Wenxing was so eager to find him.
Seeing Liu Zixia a bit dazed, Zhang Minghao pulled them both to the dining table, saying, “Hey, let’s not just stand here. The food and drinks are already served, let’s talk while we eat.”
“Right, let’s eat and chat.” Lang Wenxing, aware of the abruptness of his visit, tried to ease the awkwardness.
“Sure!” Liu Zixia responded, “Mr. Lang, it’s nice to meet you. Please take care of me.”
Although unsure why Lang Wenxing was looking for him, basic politeness was necessary.
“Don’t mention it!”
Lang Wenxing waved his hand and eagerly got to the point:
“Mr. Liu, I saw your singing video a few days ago and was very impressed. Both I and Wenxing Entertainment Media sincerely hope to collaborate with you.”
Having worked in media for many years and discovered numerous stars, Lang Wenxing prided himself on his ability to recognize talent. He believed that someone capable of creating a song as good as “Just Happened to Meet You” wouldn’t just be a fleeting success. He wanted to tap into Liu Zixia’s potential and help him shine in the entertainment industry!
Zhang Minghao was taken aback and exclaimed, “Old Lang, you’re too sneaky. You said you just wanted to meet Liu, but now you’re reneging on your word?”
Lang Wenxing’s face reddened, retorting, “I said I wanted to meet him, but I didn’t say I wouldn’t invite him to join the company. Mr. Liu, I am very sincere!”
Liu Zixia looked at Lang Wenxing and shook his head, “I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you, Mr. Lang.”
“Liu, you’re not agreeing? Why not?” Zhang Minghao was also surprised.
In Zhang Minghao’s view, Wenxing Entertainment Media was a leading company in the industry, and many artists and celebrities would jump at the chance to collaborate with them.
Liu Zixia, as a performing arts student, surely knew the capabilities of Wenxing Entertainment.
Now, with Lang Wenxing, the company’s CEO, personally inviting him, how could Liu Zixia refuse?
“Yeah, why?” Lang Wenxing was bewildered, “Wenxing Entertainment is very sincere. If you join, I’m willing to come out of retirement to be your agent.”
Lang Wenxing had founded the company twenty years ago, but since marrying and having children a decade ago, he had stepped back from the agent role to focus on being a boss. His offer to personally manage Liu Zixia showed his genuine intent and determination.
