Chapter 81: Not Inferior to This "Ningxia" at All
The scene turned silent. The flamboyant group, especially Lili, stood there in disbelief. Moments ago, Lili had mocked Ye Ling, thinking her effort to record a song was futile and that she had no chance of getting a record deal like them. But as soon as Ye Ling started singing, Lili realized she had made a huge mistake.
Lili couldn’t believe it—where did Ye Ling find such a song? This song was a classic hit, the kind that even famous singers would struggle to obtain.
Gao Yang felt his mouth go dry. He mumbled a few words, casting a bewildered glance at Ye Chui. He was convinced that this enigmatic man had written the song. "Wrong, Wrong, Wrong" was catchy, but this fresh and light "Ningxia"... How much more could this man do?
At that moment, Gao Yang overheard Ye Chui and Fang Nan’s conversation.
"Xiao Ling’s singing is so beautiful," Fang Nan said. "I can’t wait for her to perform the other songs you wrote for her, like 'Small Dimple' and 'Little Love Song.' And don’t forget that English song, 'The Show,' they’re all amazing!"
"Yes, besides these light-hearted songs, I think Xiao Ling’s voice is also suitable for some heartfelt ballads. I have a few more good ones. Nan Nan, can you help me record them later?" Ye Chui mused.
"Of course," Fang Nan replied happily. "Chui Chui, your songs are just as good as 'Ningxia.'"
Just as good as "Ningxia."
Fang Nan’s casual comment hit the flamboyant group like a lightning bolt. They were stunned. Ye Chui had more songs that were just as good as "Ningxia"?
Lili’s gaze toward Ye Chui turned eager. If she could get just one song from Ye Chui, she could leave Explosive Band and become a star on her own!
She was about to beg Ye Chui, but remembering her earlier rudeness, her face turned pale.
"Why did I say those things..." she regretted deeply, knowing that even if she begged now, Ye Chui wouldn’t agree.
Gao Yang felt even more conflicted. Their band had treated Ye Ling poorly, making it impossible for Ye Chui to have any goodwill towards them. Moreover, it was clear that Ye Chui cherished his sister. Forgiveness was unlikely.
Hearing "Ningxia," Gao Yang suddenly realized that the 60,000 yuan he paid for "Wrong, Wrong, Wrong" was just a joke to Ye Chui—a playful trick.
"Let’s go," Gao Yang said bitterly, lowering his head and walking towards another recording room.
Lili, Ma Tao, and the new member of Explosive Band reluctantly glanced at Ye Ling, who was singing beautifully in the recording studio, then followed Gao Yang.
As Ye Ling finished singing "Ningxia," Ye Chui smiled, enchanted by his sister’s voice. Her singing was indeed the most beautiful!
Thinking of the flamboyant group, Ye Chui turned to see they had already left. Ye Ling’s performance had been a far more effective rebuttal than any words.
Inside the recording studio, the sound engineer approached Ye Ling with admiration, offering some professional feedback. Soon, Ye Ling began her second take.
...
"This song isn’t good enough. Get me some better songs. None of these are fit to be my lead single!"
Outside the recording studio, a tall woman in sunglasses was angrily speaking, holding a few sheets of music as she walked into the studio.
A middle-aged man following her looked troubled. "Qingci, I’ve tried my best. I’ve begged all the famous songwriters, but good songs are hard to come by. These are the best we’ve got!"
This middle-aged man, named Li Wei, was a professional manager.
He was in the restaurant the day Ye Chui had played "Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Roses" and was astonished by it. Unfortunately, after Ye Chui finished playing, he left hurriedly, and Li Wei and his companion were unable to catch him.
The tall woman in sunglasses was Chu Qingci, the recent sensation in the entertainment industry and Fang Xi’s idol.
Chu Qingci’s new album was about to be released, but she hadn’t found a satisfactory lead single yet. She had been recording songs almost daily, preparing for the album. Today, Li Wei had brought a few more songs for her to try, but she was displeased with them on the way.
"Go find Fang Lao!" Chu Qingci said, thinking of something. "Last time at his house, I heard him playing a song called 'Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Roses.' Get me that song. It’s perfect for my lead single!"
Chu Qingci’s dissatisfaction with the songs Li Wei found was partly due to hearing "Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Roses." Compared to that, everything else seemed bland.
Li Wei quickly caught up with her, blocking her path. "You’ve heard 'Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Roses'? It’s a great song and would definitely make a great lead single. But the rights don’t belong to Fang Lao."
"What do you mean?" Chu Qingci stopped, confused.
"It’s a coincidence. About a month ago, Fang Lao and I were discussing your album at a restaurant when someone started playing 'Nine Hundred Ninety-Nine Roses.' The singer was a young man in a wheelchair. After he finished, he left immediately. Fang Lao remembered the song, but the rights belong to that young man, so he can’t give it to you," Li Wei explained.
Chu Qingci looked shocked. "Li Wei, was this young man about twenty, with a delicate appearance, expressive eyes, and slightly curly hair?"
"Eh?" Li Wei was taken aback. "Qingci, do you know him?"
Chu Qingci didn’t answer directly but continued, "Was he accompanied by a chubby man and a beautiful girl?"
Li Wei nodded repeatedly. "Yes, that beautiful girl was pushing his wheelchair when they left. When we tried to follow, the chubby man stopped us... Qingci, do you really know them?"
"I don’t know them," Chu Qingci shook her head, then pointed down the hallway. "But... they’re right there."
