Chapter 20: The Birth of the First Internet Goddess
Fang Xi pushed Ye Cui's wheelchair to the bus stop outside.
Feeling apologetic about Jian Fan’s earlier difficulties, Fang Xi said, “Brother X, I’ll deal with Jian Fan. I’ll make sure he agrees to let you join the studio. I really don’t understand what he’s thinking. Having you join the studio can only be beneficial. What reason does he have to oppose it?”
Ye Cui smiled faintly without answering. Although he wasn’t entirely sure, he had a vague sense of the reason—jealousy, plain and simple jealousy!
Previously, Ye Cui didn’t understand much about the studio’s operations. But after visiting Jian Fan’s studio, he realized that in such a small workshop, developing a project required extreme caution, making creativity very important. Previously, Jian Fan had always been responsible for creativity. With Ye Cui joining the studio, lacking in programming skills but providing great ideas, it felt like a case of the cuckoo taking over the nest. Naturally, Jian Fan wasn’t happy about it.
However, Ye Cui didn’t feel any psychological pressure about it. He was quite confident that he could come up with great ideas and make good money. Despite Jian Fan’s slightly irritating demeanor, Ye Cui believed he could win him over with his skills. After a few successful games, Jian Fan would have no choice but to acknowledge his talent.
Moreover, although there were numerous studios of various sizes in Yanjing City alone, Ye Cui understood that most of these studios were likely quite similar. Jian Fan’s studio was already relatively good, especially with his number one fan, Fang Xi, there. And, of course, there was the girl who gave him a faint feeling of first love, Fang Nan...
Thinking of Fang Nan, Ye Cui felt a slight stirring in his heart. He coughed lightly and said to Fang Xi, “By the way, your sister is quite beautiful.”
“She is...” Fang Xi responded, feeling a bit guilty. He felt like he was deceiving Professor X—he knew exactly what his sister was like. Although she appeared quiet and gentle now, she could be terrifying when she lost her temper.
“She doesn’t have a boyfriend, does she?” Ye Cui continued.
“She doesn’t...” Fang Xi said. Ever since his sister accidentally sent a suitor to the hospital when she was fifteen, no one had dared to pursue her.
Ye Cui rolled his eyes. Come on, can’t you say anything other than “she is”? What happened to the promise to help introduce me to your sister?
I’ve hinted clearly enough. Are you playing dumb or really being dumb?
Fang Xi could only ignore Ye Cui’s expression. Brother X, it’s not that I don’t want to help you get to know my sister; I just don’t want to see you get hurt. Based on his experience, if Ye Cui could walk, he could at least run away if Fang Nan lost her temper. But now... Fang Nan’s over-the-shoulder throw was really quite lethal...
Feeling a bit awkward, Fang Xi changed the subject, “Brother X, what do you plan to do with the game ideas you mentioned earlier, Find the Difference and Puzzle?”
“Oh, those? You can have them.” Ye Cui said casually. They were just simple puzzle games. He could come up with dozens more in minutes.
“For me?” Fang Xi was shocked. Turning these ideas into games could easily result in millions of downloads. Even at the lowest charge of 1 Alliance currency per download, that’s a substantial income. And Ye Cui was just giving them away so casually!
Fang Xi didn’t know what to say, “Brother X, I can’t accept this. These are your ideas...”
“Consider it a welcome gift,” Ye Cui said with a light smile. Kid, stick with me and there’ll be plenty of benefits.
But Fang Xi was too honest and insisted, “I’ll develop the games, but I’ll put both our names on them. Any earnings will be split 60-40, no, 70-30. You get 70%, I get 30%!”
Ye Cui couldn’t argue with him and just rolled his eyes, “Fine, whatever you want.”
“By the way, Brother X, what’s your second game about?” Fang Xi asked, clearly very interested.
“It’s called Elimination, and it’s not inferior to Matching.” Ye Cui explained.
“Elimination...” Fang Xi repeated the name, not knowing what kind of game it was, but he was already full of anticipation.
A bus approached in the distance. Fang Xi quickly asked, “Brother X, one more question... what exactly is ‘xiang’? Is it something very hard to eat?”
“Hard to eat is an understatement...” Ye Cui looked at Fang Xi with a smile, then leaned in and whispered the meaning of ‘xiang’ in his ear.
Fang Xi’s face immediately showed a look of extreme shock.
Over the past few days, he had been guessing what it could be, imagining all sorts of answers, like some horribly tasting snack or some moldy food. But he never expected that ‘xiang’ would be... Fang Xi felt like vomiting.
So that’s what they were betting on eating!
Fang Xi immediately looked distressed and said to Ye Cui, “Brother X, your second game has to surpass Matching.”
“Don’t worry, it will,” Ye Cui reassured him with a smile.
The bus arrived, and with Fang Xi’s help, Ye Cui got on and left.
After returning, Fang Xi immediately started working on developing the Find the Difference game.
The game was very simple. The earlier version only took him ten minutes to create. Perfecting it took about an hour. However, he encountered a small problem—what to do about the photos.
It’s worth noting that in this world, people had a strong sense of copyright. Even online photos couldn’t be used casually. Unauthorized use, especially for profit, could lead to legal consequences from the photo’s owner. So finding suitable photos became an issue.
By the evening, during dinner, Fang Xi tentatively asked Fang Nan if they could continue using her photos. To his surprise, she readily agreed, solving the photo problem.
After dinner, Fang Nan let Fang Xi take a few more pictures. Fang Xi made some simple modifications to these photos, and by 10 PM, the Find the Difference game was uploaded.
Unsurprisingly, Find the Difference immediately caused a sensation on the software platform.
With the reputation Fang Xi had built from his previous game, Cat Adventure 2.0, many people were already following him. Within an hour, Find the Difference had reached fifty thousand downloads, becoming a hit with rave reviews.
“This game is really interesting. Simple yet full of fun. The best part is you can admire a beautiful girl while playing!”
“Who is this beauty in the photos? She looks like a quiet and elegant girl. I want to know her.”
“Beauty, let’s date!”
“This beauty is my new goddess!”
—This game even succeeded in creating the first internet goddess in this world.
