Chapter 175: After the Car Accident
"Beep beep beep beep beep..."
It was noon in the studio. Fang Nan was in the kitchen cooking, wearing an apron and chopping vegetables, when her portable optical brain suddenly rang.
Someone was requesting communication.
Fang Nan, a bit puzzled, answered the call: "Who's this?"
"Is this Ms. Fang Nan?" a polite woman asked.
"Yes, it's me. What's going on?"
"Well, this is City Third Hospital. Your brother was just brought in because of a car accident. He's currently in emergency care. Since you're listed as his emergency contact, I called you."
"You...you must save him! I'm heading to the hospital right now!"
Fang Nan shouted, her expression changing completely.
In her eyes, Fang Xi was her only family in this world. Her brother was in a car accident and currently being rescued?
Her body started trembling.
Ending the communication, Fang Nan rushed out of the kitchen, still wearing her apron and holding the knife.
"What happened?" Ye Cui asked, concerned.
"It's Fang Xi... Fang Xi was in a car accident and is being rescued in the hospital..." Fang Nan said, her voice trembling and tearful.
Ye Cui was also worried and immediately moved towards the door: "Let's go to the hospital right away. Don't worry, he'll be fine."
"What about Aiwa?" Robert, who had been waiting for lunch at the table, jumped up and asked.
"I don't know. They only informed me about Fang Xi being in emergency care..." Fang Nan said tearfully.
Ye Cui, equally anxious, maneuvered his wheelchair towards the door: "Fang Xi and Aiwa took Nan Nan's car. We'll have to take a taxi."
Fang Nan followed closely behind Ye Cui.
Robert was about to leave when he saw Wang Shiyu looking over curiously. He said, "Xiaoyu, stay at home for now. We'll be back soon."
Wang Shiyu, also worried, knew she couldn't do much as a child, so she nodded obediently without saying anything.
Outside, cars were coming and going, making it fairly easy to hail a taxi.
Soon, a taxi stopped.
"Where to?" the driver asked, poking his head out the window.
"City Third Hospital. Go as fast as you can!" Fang Nan said, getting in.
The driver was startled, especially when he saw Fang Nan still holding the knife. Her fierce look was terrifying.
He immediately decided to escape, but Fang Nan grabbed his collar, pulling him out of the window. She then jumped into the driver's seat: "Get in, quickly!"
"..."
With Fang Nan holding a knife, she looked incredibly intimidating. Robert helped Ye Cui into the taxi quickly.
"Sorry, we'll return the car after using it!" Robert said to the frightened driver.
Fang Nan stepped on the gas, and the taxi sped off, narrowly avoiding a collision with a utility pole.
"Call...call the police..." the driver finally reacted, reaching for his optical brain to report the robbery.
Just then, he felt a tug on his pants and looked down, seeing a super cute little girl with big, soulful eyes looking at him pitifully.
"Uncle, please don't call the police, okay?"
Wang Shiyu was using all her cuteness to its maximum effect, thinking: Brother Fang, Sister Nan Nan, I'm handling this driver, you must get to the hospital in time...
"Hurry up! Hurry up!"
Fang Nan was extremely anxious.
Although Ye Cui had managed to take the knife from her, he couldn't remove the apron she wore.
It was noon, and traffic was heavy.
Fang Nan kept honking the horn, feeling incredibly anxious.
"Let me handle this!" Robert said suddenly.
He opened his portable optical brain, his fingers quickly tapping on the screen.
"What are you doing?" Ye Cui asked.
"I'm trying to hack into Beijing's traffic control system to ensure we get green lights all the way!"
"What, you can do that?"
It turned out he could.
Soon, traffic eased, and they had a smooth, uninterrupted journey.
After about ten minutes, the battered taxi arrived at the hospital.
Fang Nan rushed out and dashed inside. By the time Ye Cui, helped by Robert, wheeled into the hospital lobby, Fang Nan had already found out Fang Xi's room and they hurried to the special care unit.
Bam!
Fang Nan kicked open the door and rushed in: "Fang Xi! Are you okay?"
Robert and Ye Cui followed closely behind.
In the room...
"Sis, you're here so quickly?" Fang Xi was sitting on the bed, eating ice cream with a plastic spoon. He waved the ice cream in front of Fang Nan, "This stuff is pretty good, want some?"
Fang Nan: "..."
Ye Cui: "..."
Robert: "..."
Aiwa, standing beside the bed, saw the urgency on their faces, Fang Nan still wearing her apron, and realized they had misunderstood. She quickly explained:
"Did you think something happened? Fang Xi and I were hit by another car, but we weren't hurt. Fang Xi just said his leg hurt a bit, so we came to get it checked..."
Aiwa couldn't continue because Fang Nan's eyes were blazing with anger as she stared at Fang Xi.
"Sis..." Fang Xi was terrified, "Sis, don't scare me..."
Fang Nan was furious.
Her previous worry had turned into anger.
She rushed to the bed and started hitting Fang Xi's arm with her small fists: "You scared me to death! How many times have I told you to be careful when driving? How can you not listen? Even if you hit another car, you can't get hit! How many times do I have to tell you? Why don't you use your brain..."
"Sis, sis, stop, it hurts, it hurts, I'm dying..."
Later, it was proven that although Fang Xi's leg hurt after the accident, it was just a minor scrape. He had no major injuries. It was Fang Nan's beating that left his arm bruised and sore for over a month...
After Fang Nan calmed down, Ye Cui frowned and asked Fang Xi: "What exactly happened?"
"We don't know," Fang Xi said, frustrated. "We parked by the roadside and weren't bothering anyone. Suddenly, another car crashed into us. Luckily, Sis's car is sturdy. Although it's wrecked, we weren't hurt."
As Fang Xi described it, Aiwa's face softened with affection.
When the car crashed, Fang Xi instinctively hugged Aiwa to protect her.
"What about the driver? What happened to him?" Ye Cui asked.
Fang Xi shook his head: "It was chaotic. I saw him crawl out of his car and stumble away."
"Did you get a good look at him?" Ye Cui asked, suspecting something fishy. Could it have been deliberate?
"Ye Ge, this is what he looked like." Fang Xi handed a notebook to Ye Cui, showing a sketch of the driver, "I drew this while waiting."
Wow, truly an art student...
Ye Cui, sweating, examined the sketch and couldn't help but shout: "Is this a man or a woman? Wearing makeup?"
"That's how he looked," Fang Xi confirmed.
Aiwa nodded: "That's what I saw too."
"You two must be seeing things..." Ye Cui was speechless.
But he used his optical brain's photo function to scan the sketch into an electronic document.
"What are you doing?" Robert asked curiously.
"This person might have deliberately crashed into Fang Xi and Aiwa. I'll see if I can find out who he is," Ye Cui said.
Robert's eyes lit up, and he said: "Send me the picture. I can cross-reference it with the national census database, see if we can find something."
"Alright..." Ye Cui, impressed by the top hacker's prowess, sent the picture to Robert.
But he didn't rely entirely on Robert.
He stepped out of the room and called Mo Feng.
After a moment, the call connected, and Mo Feng's honest voice came through: "Boss, do you need something?"
"There's someone I need you to check out. Hong Yong and his team might be able to help. Here's a sketch. I'm sending it over now," Ye Cui said, sending the picture of the sketch, "This person crashed a car into someone at the Sunflower Amusement Park today. With this strange cross-dressing look, maybe you can start from there."
"Alright, but Beijing is big. I can't guarantee we'll find him. I'll have them try... Huh?"
Mo Feng suddenly paused.
"What's wrong?" Ye Cui asked.
Mo Feng's voice was odd: "Boss, I've seen this person before..."
