ROSGT Chapter 163: Wang Shiyu's Unmatched Skills
### Volume 1, Chapter 163: Wang Shiyu's Unmatched Skills
In the arcade screen, two characters from Street Fighter II were locked in intense combat, one being Chun-Li and the other Ryu. The sound of fighting filled the air as Robert and the young Wang Shiyu faced off.
Behind them, Ye Chui and the other members of the studio stood watching. After the game's development was completed, internal testing was a standard procedure. Although the games developed by Wolverine Game Studio were entirely sourced from another world by Ye Chui, they still required thorough testing to ensure there were no issues.
As the best gamers in their group, Robert and the young Wang Shiyu naturally took on the role of testers. They had already played several matches, and it was evident that the game had no issues because—
"Yay, I won again!" Wang Shiyu cheered loudly, standing on a stool. On the arcade screen, her controlled Ryu had just defeated Robert's Chun-Li with a series of elegant combos. The moves were flashy and perfectly timed.
Street Fighter II could be considered the first truly mature arcade fighting game, with better balance and playability than Fatal Fury or Art of Fighting. Since the release dates of Street Fighter I and II were close, Ye Chui decided to release Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting first. However, he believed that Street Fighter II would reach new heights, given its lasting appeal.
"Robert lost again. How many times has he lost now?" Fang Nan asked with a smile, hugging Wang Shiyu's shoulder.
Fang Xi thought for a moment and said, "I've counted. Shiyu has beaten Robert fifty-six times…"
"Unbelievable. Play me again!" Robert shouted angrily. He was very frustrated. Before Wang Shiyu arrived, he was the best at arcade games in the studio, but now a young girl had taken that title. He couldn't accept this fact!
"Robert, give it a rest. You can't beat Shiyu. She’s used every character in the game and proven that with the right skills, every character is powerful," Ye Chui said with a smile.
This was why Ye Chui believed there were no issues with the game: both Robert and Wang Shiyu were top-notch gamers, and Wang Shiyu could beat Robert regardless of which character she used. This indicated that the game was well-balanced and skill was the key factor.
Their matches could definitely serve as tutorial-level demonstrations.
"I refuse to accept this! One more match! I will win this time!" Robert shouted, his frustration boiling over.
"But it's boring!" Wang Shiyu pouted, her expression reflecting a lack of interest. "Is there no worthy opponent for me? I’d rather play Dou Dizhu."
"Just one more match! I won't lose this time!" Robert insisted.
Wang Shiyu, however, had completely lost interest. She hopped off the stool and said, "I’m not wasting time with you. I want to play Dou Dizhu and earn pocket money!"
"Wait, give me one more chance…" Robert pleaded, clearly devastated by his repeated defeats.
Eva quickly intervened, "Robert, give it up. Clearly, you're no match for Wang Shiyu."
"Yeah, Robert, don't seek more humiliation," Fang Xi added. He reached out to pat Robert's shoulder but hesitated, recalling a previous incident and deciding against it—after all, familiarity only went so far, and he didn't want to provoke Robert again.
Robert, seeing everyone trying to comfort him, reluctantly accepted the harsh reality. He slinked off to a corner, looking thoroughly defeated.
Ye Chui chuckled and told Fang Xi, "At twelve o'clock, Street Fighter II goes live. But before that, take the game to Zhang Xing and have him install it on the arcade machines."
Ye Chui had a cooperative arrangement with Zhang Xing, the owner of Golden Sun Entertainment. Zhang Xing handled the production of arcade machines, and Ye Chui would provide him with the game an hour before the official release to allow enough time for installation on the machines.
Although this world's arcade machines were more advanced than those from Ye Chui's original world, allowing for quick updates, the sheer number of installations required some time. Therefore, Ye Chui would send the game to Zhang Xing an hour in advance to ensure everything was set up on time. He wasn’t too concerned about piracy, as it was relatively rare in this world.
Ye Chui didn’t make much money from the arcade machines due to the prevalence of the Optical Brain, which significantly impacted the spread of arcade games. However, as someone who grew up in the arcade era, arcade machines held a nostalgic value for him, so he maintained his partnership with Zhang Xing.
Fang Xi acknowledged the task and went to contact Zhang Xing. Meanwhile, Ye Chui approached Wang Shiyu, curious about her dedication to Dou Dizhu.
"Shiyu, haven’t you gotten bored of playing Dou Dizhu all these days?" Ye Chui asked with a smile.
"No way! As long as I can earn pocket money, I'll never get bored," Wang Shiyu responded cheerfully.
"How much pocket money have you earned so far?" Ye Chui asked, glancing at her Optical Brain.
Wang Shiyu quickly covered the screen with her hands, "No peeking!"
"Keeping secrets, are we?" Ye Chui laughed, not taking it too seriously.
"Of course! It's my secret. I'll show you once I’ve won enough," Wang Shiyu said, treasuring her secret.
Ye Chui laughed and shook his head, "Alright, I won’t look. Keep winning."
His tone was full of amusement.
For the past few days, Wang Shiyu had been strict about not letting anyone see her playing Dou Dizhu. Not even Fang Nan knew how much she had won.
Ye Chui didn’t delve deeper, thinking she might have won a few hundred yuan at most.
Once Ye Chui walked away, Wang Shiyu grinned mischievously, "If Brother Ye knew how much I’ve won, he wouldn’t let me keep playing. I’ll tell him once I’ve won everything from this small landlord!"
—Genius indeed thinks of everything.
"Hurry up, I’m getting old waiting," a voice from the screen reminded her.
This voice was recorded by a voice actor Ye Chui hired through Zuo Xiaoyou, humorous and almost identical to the one in Happy Dou Dizhu.
And the person speaking was the small landlord, Cao Kang.
Wang Shiyu puffed her cheeks and said, "Watch me win your last token!"
…
In the office of Golden Sun Entertainment.
"Beep beep beep beep…" A notification sounded from Zhang Xing’s wrist-worn Optical Brain. He opened it to see a file sent by Fang Xi. Smiling faintly, he called his secretary and had the game installation package sent to her with instructions, "Have the technicians install this package on the arcade machines."
"Yes, boss," the secretary replied and left the office.
Zhang Xing put away his Optical Brain and turned his attention back to the man sitting across the desk. "Now, Mr. Wu, what were you saying?"
The man in his thirties sitting opposite, dressed in a suit but looking somewhat disheveled with a scruffy beard, yet with sharp, bright eyes, was Wu Haotian.
He didn’t seem to mind Zhang Xing's interruption and repeated his proposal with a smile, "I was just saying that I hope you will terminate your partnership with Professor Ye and instead work with me."
"Hah!" Zhang Xing looked annoyed, "Wu Haotian, what do you take me for?"
"You're a businessman," Wu Haotian said coldly, "And so am I. But Professor Ye isn't—he might be making waves in the gaming industry now, but you and I both know he doesn't know how to manage this success. Unless he can consistently produce excellent games, he will eventually be surpassed by others."
Wu Haotian pointed to himself confidently, "By people like me!"
"Surpassed by you?" Zhang Xing sneered.
"My Sea Breeze company’s first game sold 300,000 units. Though not as impressive as Professor Ye’s, it’s closer than anyone else has gotten!" Wu Haotian declared confidently. "Today at noon, my game ‘Goddess of Sirius’ will be released alongside Professor Ye's Street Fighter II. You will see my results!"
"You think your ‘Goddess of Sirius’ will outperform Professor Ye's game?" Zhang Xing's face was full of disdain.
"Of course not. Professor Ye’s games can’t be surpassed immediately. But that doesn't mean they never will be." Wu Haotian's eyes gleamed, "This time, my ‘Goddess of Sirius’ will sell over 500,000 units! My next game will sell a million units, and then…I will surpass Professor Ye!"
Zhang Xing scoffed, "You're quite confident, aren't you?"
"I am very confident!" Wu Haotian stood up, "As for my proposal, I'll await your response."
With that, Wu Haotian turned and left the office.
Zhang Xing’s face still showed traces of disdain and anger, but once Wu Haotian had left, his expression turned calm, revealing a shrewd smile.
He wasn’t truly angry. In fact, he agreed with Wu Haotian’s view: Ye Chui wasn’t a businessman. He idealized game development too much without fully leveraging it from a commercial standpoint. How many games could he possibly develop in his lifetime?
Compared to Ye Chui, Wu Haotian seemed like a more sustainable partner.
However, Zhang Xing planned to wait and see if Wu Haotian had the capabilities he claimed.
"Let’s see if his ‘Goddess of Sirius’ performs as
well as he boasts…" Zhang Xing muttered with a cold smile.
